If Imtook a standard wagon, letโs say a VW Passat......
And Imwended up,the rear doors and rear glass, thus creating a panel van type car.
Does one have to change it at DVLA??
Anywhere else?
I know one can get them insured, but what would inspector Jobsworth or the guy in the dark room say??

Ive got a vague recollection that there was something that was a issue with this legally but I can't remember what it is. I'm sure @kapri will know.

I think any attempt to change the description of a vehicle would start alarms ringing at DVLA due to modifications made to the shell. Hopefully someone who has been through this and succeeded can give you a proper answer.

I think the guy had Cheese in his name, it was that cool B3 Passat estate that was converted into a 3 door van, must be about 10 years ago now. I'm sure I remember that it eventually got sorted but was a lot of hassle.

I remember this one, welding up the doors was fine and they changed it to car derived van or something of that sort.

Several years ago I read* an explanation along the lines of "welding up the rear doors is legal as long as the B-post / C-post are not altered" * Do your own research, it was a while ago and things might have changed
