Adjustable height car ramps

whilst rolling around under the car fixing the exhaust I got to thinking about making the process of getting the car off the ground easier.
I've thought about adjustable height car ramps before, like these ones that CJ autos sell.
Has anyone used anything like this and are they any good? I assume a drill or impact driver could be used to raise the scissor lift up, and they seem a quicker way to get one side/end of a car in the air than moving a trolley jack around. I've no space to store anything bigger and these adjustable ramps shouldn't take up any more space than my current ramps (in theory!).

Do any other suppliers do ramps like these?

I have a set of ramps with built in bottle jack, drive up like normal, the jack then lifts the platform that the wheel is on. Once at desired height you then put the peg in (like on an axle stand) and away you go. Bit of a faff because you really need to do each side a bit at a time, unless you have an helper. But work spot on and are great, although I can't remember where the wife got them from

I also have the hydraulic jack type, extra wide too, enough for the wheels of my Vxr8.
I bought them from ebay with a voucher eBay had emailed to get some money off and only paid £77 I think, absolutely a bargain.

The problem with them though is that none of my cars would go straight on due to long overhang and low suspension, so I made some extensions. The overall finished job is great, loads of room under the car, safe to easy to use.


I did previously have some more like scissor effect ones and had a nasty accident due to them travelling in an arc. It's documented in the thread about my Carlton.

Just checked the link, those CJ autos ones are ridiculously expensive and the design is flawed, the platform arcs, so the wheels at the other end of the car need to roll as it goes up, not ideal.

thanks for the replies, given me some things to think about. I did think the ones I linked were a bit pricey but haven't found anywhere else that does that sort of ramp.

That sort of ramp is a bit old hat, the hydraulic ones seem to be the more modern equivalent, and what I'm happy to have spent my money on.

I brought an old pair second hand that have a scissor jack type mechanism and are quit low so had no problems with lowered cars and go higher than the average none adjustable ramps probably one of the best curse word auction sight purchases I've made.

Maybe something a bit different, but I made a hoisting cradle in my garage from RSJ and strong box tubing to lift my car in one go using a 1-tonne electric winch. Being as my car is lightweight, that's not an issue, but you could build something similar relatively easily either in situ (in the garage as I did), or to wheel into place and lift up one end of the car in one go and onto axle stands.

A friend uses this type for his V8 Pop. Not cheap, agreed, but once paid for the cost is soon forgotten as they are easy to use and safe.

But Christ they are pricey! That's 2 poster money really, albeit a 2 poster is not suitable in my unit.

I have a set of Quickjacks and love them, very handy.
If you have access to a Costco card you can get them a bit cheaper there.

I had a set of the CJ auto ones...used them once and sold them. Took too long to raise and lower them, and they were very heavy, so not really very practical for me (as I don’t have a garage).

Instead I use some of those wide plastic drive on ramps which give enough clearance for most situations...

i have these ones and for lowered cars it makes things easy and yes wheels not on the ramp need to be free moving. there that good i don't even have them at the moment as everyone wants to borrow them
