Right, I think I'm being a bit dumb so just need some advice please
Car is a 1994 Honda Legend.
Issue: I drove to a friends house without issue, when I went to start the car to leave, turn to ignition, dash lights come on, turn to start, a click and all electrics die. Turn key off then back on, car starts up, all seems fine and normal.
About 5 minutes later, waiting at a roundabout with car idling. Car dies, engine off, all electrical power gone, turning key off and on does nothing. Start pushing the car out of the way after a few moments and suddenly all the electrics come back, I get in, start up and drive home fine.
Some initial thoughts:
Battery seems ok as the engine turns over quickly before starting, I presume this would mean alternator is working also as battery seems to have good state of charge. Wires on the terminals seemed tight and clean
Faulty ignition switch was suggested, and I did buy one to replace it. But on taking out the old switch, the power remains on for the interior light etc. so to me it doesn't make sense than an issue with the switch could kill all the power, if theres still power without the switch even being there...
Earth cables have been mentioned and are next on my list to check
Any other ideas for things to check? I've not been using the car since as I don't fancy losing electrics while actually going along at speed... I can't think that theres many things that could cause the car to lose all power then regain it again shortly afterwards.
