Hi guys my newly purchased 626 has the following MOT failures;
Headlamp levelling device inoperable on both sides.
Track rod end ball joint dust cover needs replacing and a couple of brakes hoses.
I can do the hoses no problem, I wasn't sure on the headlamp levelling device. Is this an electronic item or manual?
Do i assume correct that with the right dust cover, that track rod end is a pretty straight forward job?
Photo below for reference...

Might it have adjusters inside the headlamp units that have broken?

It sounds like has an electric headlamp leveller which does not work. It could be as easy as a switch or broken motors within the headlamps.

I don't think many testers would fail the headlamp levellers if the headlamp beam and level was correct. I've never seen a tester try the levelling switch except for one time I went in with them set too low following towing. The tester just turned the switch to get them right and all was well.
It's often seized motors on old cars. You need to check for power at the motors and work back or forwards depending on the result.

If it’s a late 80s car as per the pic I’d be surprised if it even had remote adjustment, never mind electric. I’d guess they are just misaligned and the MoT tester just assumed.

Headlight adjusters became a testable item last year for the mot I'm afraid. Simplest way around the problem is remove the controller, and tape over/blank out the space it lived

Headlight adjusters became a testable item last year for the mot I'm afraid. Simplest way around the problem is remove the controller, and tape over/blank out the space it lived Thanks for all the responses guys, I have logged on for a few days. Weirdly when taken apart, the wheel that adjusts 1 through to 4 had no electrical connection inside it. So unless another tester agreed to remove it for good without ruining the look of the interior, it never had one in it. I can't see how it would work. I've been down the scrap yard and found a near like for like, so i'm looking at testing the units with that. If that fails I guess it could be blanked.
