Daimler Sovereign 2-dr convertible. Notts. £4½K 1976. 4.2 litre auto. Coupé to convertible conversion. Not running properly & MOT fail. Needs work. Appears to be low mileage? The coupés are rarely seen for this type of money, (and would usually be rotten), let alone the convertible conversions.

It was even more of a bargain at £1,350...

It was even more of a bargain at £1,350... Wow, indeed! I wonder how long ago the hammer fell on that bid?

Wow, indeed! I wonder how long ago the hammer fell on that bid? 3 days ago - via H & H Auctions at their Buxton sale - someone in the right place at the right time That someone in the right place would have been Mr Edward Collin of EDC Classics Ltd. I've said on this site before that I've seen some real (apparent) bargains on the H&H auction site by checking back on hammer prices. At the most extreme I'm talking >£100K cars selling for <£40K.

I'm sorry to say this but, as a convertible, it looks sodding hideous. As the original coupe, it would have looked wonderful, as all Jag/Daimler Coupes do.

As much as I love the XJC as a coupé I'm afraid I can't agree, I think it also makes a fine looking convertible, how could you not like this? The one thing that can spoil it is if they've mucked the hood up and it's stacked 2 foot high behind the rear seats. It provided inspiration for the later Daimler Corsica concept which I think is one of the most drop dead gorgeous cars from Jaguar / Daimler.

The wheels on the ones you have shown certainly give the cars a better look, that helps no end. Thing is, I still would rather live with the coupe, it is just so right, in my personal opinion.

Hey, you don't have to sell the XJC to me, I've loved it since I was a teenager which was a looooong time ago. Number 3 on my lottery win car list is the XJ5.3C! I just don't happen to think that they look 'sodding hideous' in convertible form. (Apart from this one perhaps!)
