As title whats a good engine thats quiet, I quess I'm looking at a bike engine? I would think I need some thing with a higher output that can be run at low rev's, a smal engine reving its nuts off would be loud. thanks

What is it for?
If its to run at a constant speed then as said, generators and many other petrol driven tools are designed for the job.
Some generators are called silent generators, in reality they are very far from silent but might be OK for what you want.

I need a constant speed power plant, its to drive a kind of generator, but the onus is on noise, maybe a small car engine, low revs would keep the noise low...

If noise is the main concern, would an electric powerplant not be better?

If it is to drive a generator then rpm is more important as in order to get your 50Hz they will usually need to turn at either 3000 (2 pole), 1500 (4 pole) or, more rarely 1000 (6 pole). A small car engine running at low speed would probably be quietest but won't be very efficient Nick |

Comes from posting from halfway down a bottle of grouse . . . My preferred tipple is Laphroaig 10; it will get you comfortably numb but with a sledgehammer of peat smoke, iodine & sea spray while you get there. |

I think for quiet generating I'd buy a "silent" generator and build a sound absorbing enclosure for it with forced throughflow of air for cooling (electric fan).
