I need to remove the hub on the cortina and I was looking at the machine mart hub pulling tool Has anyone used one? Or do I use a bearing puller? What's the best way? I used to use a block of wood on the hub but I cant do that now I have a disc on there

Never needed a puller on a mk2, and I would have thought it’s a similar setup is the inner bearing trying to stay put and take the seal with it? Usually a bit of rocking and it comes straight off Of course there’s always the chance I’m lying.....

You don't need a puller to remove the hub just undo and remove the split pin and nut and pull it off with your hand if you need to change a bearing use a drift and a hammer to tap out the inner bearing race.
If it's a rear hum undo the 4 bolts and then use a slide hammer and pry bars to remove the drive shaft.

You haven’t put those shiny callipers back on have you? 🤣 I’d be unhappy if the bearings are that tight, are the stub axles ok? If all else fails the puller you showed above should do it

If it's the outer bearing take the bearing out and with a drift tap on it and see if ti's seated properly if it's seated correctly you should get a very ting ting sound from it as the bearing cannot mover any more and is seated correctly, when you tighten the nut do it up tight and back the nut off quarter of a turn spin the hub and whit the wheel on with hands at 12 & 6 rock the wheel top and bottom there should be a very slight play in it, then sleighed the nut lock washer over the nut and fit a new split pin.

If all else fails the puller you showed above should do it I was going to but something isnt right with the hub on the os. I assume the stub axle is correct, they were fine before I stripped it all down and put new bearings in!

I think you may not have a bearing race seated properly outer or inner will give what you are describing.

Hi, Check the bearing lands on the stub axle for 'bruises or scars', they can kick up a high spot and stop the bearings sliding in and out of place.

I did! I thought I'd try a small bearing puller I have which I thought would be too small but it was the right size!
I think it's the bearing cups in the hub which are the issue but I'll give them a tap later to see if they move

It's all back together and I had some fasteners that I could use to try a test git and it's all sorted!

What was the problem Jim? I think it was a bearing cup not correctly seated in the hub
