So a client of mine has decided to retire, shut down his business and sell up. We are talking about a proper old-school engineering, men-in-sheds business here that specialised in hydraulics. He wants to sell his tooling, stock and pretty much everything else in the building so I said I'd give him a hand (for free) as he is way out of his comfort zone.
He's no idea where to start so I suggested he starts with the bigger items, long bed lathes, pillar drills, presses, welders, pipe benders etc., but he also has his personal project which is a rolling & running/driving, reconditioned Range Rover chassis.
No I'm no expert but he tells me:
He built a box steel frame for it so he could add the steering column, brakes and seat to make it 'driveable'. It does indeed start, drive and stop! Basically I guess you could either custom build something or just add a standard body and you're on the road.
He was going to build it back up with a replacement body but time has run out. Does this have any great value? Would engine/gearbox etc be better sold separately to chassis? Any help or advice would be well appreciated, I know nothing about these cars and he was doing it for love not money and is out of touch with the market so he's not sure either. There aren't many running/driving RR chassis on ebay to compare!
PS There is lots more fantastic stuff to dispose of (some of which will hopefully end up in my garage), it's a proper Aladdin's Cave and I can put up further details soon if I'm allowed/people are interested.

No I'm no expert but he tells me:
- 100" RR Classic
- It was sandblasted, properly repaired and repainted with 3 coats of red oxide and 3 of silver
- All bolt-on components (and nuts/bolts) have been repaired, replaced or reconditioned as necessary
- Engine is a Perkins 4.236 3.8l, again rebuilt (before the chassis rebuild) and then had 16000 miles on it before the vehicle stripdown
- New shocks/springs
- Diesel pump reconditioned
- Original gearbox rebuilt with higher ratio 5th
- Transfer box rebuilt, again with extra high ratio
- Brakes, steering, fuel etc all rebuilt or renewed
- Aftermarket 10"x15" Alloy Wheels - tyres probably too old to be useful
- Has the v5 doc and it's a 1986.
