Ignoring the fact that I accidentally tossed a V8 in it, under the "points" system that seems to apply to rebuilds, would this not just be a MX5 with a body kit? Over here in Britain, nope. A rebody is a separate chassis frame with a non original bodyshell on top. Your MX-5 skate board would be classed as an altered/radically modified monocoque and then the P1800 shell would be subject to the ball on a stick test and all the radius nonsense for interior trim

More updates on the 7. It feels like a never ending weldathon, so we are trying to hit landmarks in each episode. So here we get the cockpit framed and start on the very back of the car. Should only be 1 more on chassis fab and we can move onto some different parts of the build

Just a slight addition to the forces on the track rod end used in the top arm - when you apply the brakes, there's quite a sizeable reaction moment gets placed on it - and in a different direction to what you might at first think.
An undersized joint in the outer end of the upper wishbone will bend FORWARD - as that is the direction the brake disc is trying to turn the caliper and hence the upright, pivoting it around the lower wishbone joint. Some less than well engineering conversions to rose joints on Caterhams from the Fiat track rod end they use have found this out!

OK, this is maybe the last episode we drop on a weekly basis. I need to drop the pace a bit and focus on doing them like this more. We really paced ourselves and added the quality in this but it's simply unmanageable to do this editing, building a car, air an episode every week AND work 40h a week in a separate job. But it is absolutely worth doing them to this level, so that's the plan...

I thought the Kirkey seats were adjustable for grip via tweaking the sides in or out with brute force?

Happy Monday guys, we have been busy too:
Still to come, we are going to get the rear suspension arms put together and push for a rolling chassis ASAP. Also, between us I may or may not have yet another project to add to the stable.
It's retro and relevant. Promise.
