Managed to find the correct headlight for this eventually (well, it's not correct for this model, I'm putting a later style headlight on it). There very hard to get hold of. Only one I could find had a rough 2" hole hacked in it. I made some little templates of the dome, knocked up an infill plate and welded it up. Took my time just linking spot welds. Infill plate still pulled flat though. It ended up nicely flush though so filed it back and panel beat it to shape again. Should get away with no filler at all in this. Awkward to tidy up inside but I made sure it fully penetrated with as little build up as possible inside. Dressed it with a dremmel grinding wheel, hopefully high build will cover it.

Painting with a brush is challenging. Not got it quite right yet so keep flatting it back and trying again. Also been trying it a bit of zinc plating I'll add more pics when I'm happy with the paint!

Tried out using a sieve to plate batches of small bits. Need to manually toss them to keep them all plating, but works ok.

Put some brushing additive in the paint and it's really starting to look decent.

Paint looks good, well done, you'll have to give us some tips on the paint and brushes to use please. Black will show up all the imperfections what-ever you do. You'll never lose money on the Velo, I bought a Norton 650ss and an AJS 650CSR years ago and they've gone stupid in values, mind you what they ask and what they get may be two different things I guess. I bought them to enjoy though not to profit from though. Makes me want to add to the bike collection but don't tell the wife Perhaps a BSA as spares are available and reasonably priced compared to Velo (Rolls Royce) prices.

Velocettes are getting expensive! But they didn't make many! Think they only made 1000 ish of these. You can get pretty much any part though, apart from frames, I reckon you could build one from all new parts. I am using Smith and Allan tekaloid paint, with owatrol paint conditioner. Using Hamilton perfection natural brushes. All I'm still struggling with is dust contamination and air bubbles. The dust contamination is annoying me. I've filtered the paint, the brushes have nothing in them, I'm now painting stuff in the bathroom wearing only shorts and I still can't get rid of all the contamination. Oh well, I'll have to find a way of dealing with it after. Can't flat it though, can't polish it either. I'm hoping once fully set I can knock the high points of any contamination when I wax it all.

Thanks for the info, I know very little regarding the painting, I guess that's why paint shops have ant-static booths for spraying, panel wipes and a dust free environment, best of luck. still looks nice on the photographs though.

Well I wasn't very good at keeping this updated was I! How it sits now... Just fitted the exhaust today. Seat refurb kit is on its way, hopefully I'll get a chain and a battery at the weekend. Few bits of wiring to do and it will be done! Carb was alot of work, boring it out and making a new slide. Built the wheels myself, was alot easier than folk make out. Rebuilt the chronometric speedo too. All chromework is original parts, replated by me in the kitchen. Although it has been alot of fun, I think in future, brush painting and diy electroplating probably aren't worth the grief 😂
