I grew up near Doncaster. My next door neighbour was a guy called Peter Ibbotson, he made these- www.bra-cars.com/html/289.htmlI didn’t really realise at the time other than my grandad saying ‘he builds kit cars’. I think I kinda took it to mean he liked to build the kits, not he produced them! He was always interested in my automotive tut once i got to that age, and always came round for a look but was fairly quiet about what he did himself. It would be just after he sold the business/rights by a couple of years. I’ve got a picture of him helping push my first fastback off the trailer when I was 17 or so somewhere. The neighbour the other side was an old boy the same age as my grandparents who rented a house off them. Typical bachelor of the time, quite private. Turns out he was Tony Sugdens (famous 60s/70s BTCC driver) mechanic for most of his racing career. I’ve got a load of BDA related tools and racing literature i rescued when his family skipped it all. I don’t know a huge amount about other stuff in the area other than volksrod beach buggies were made in Doncaster. I know this as I once met the woman who was responsible for the office side of the operation, at a CAMRA beer meeting of all places. Think I’ll be off to do some research about when else was going on round here.

There’s surprisingly little online tbh, other than it was an old railway works on carr hill taken on in ‘41 for war works then changed over to motor bodies postwar. I assume given the location it’s long gone under the newer plants, it’s only over the road from your work though. That and they built mostly jowetts there and we know the type of people they attract 😂

As far as I know it was down near Bridons rope place, quite a few old factory type buildings down there but not sure which one it would have been. Was a second tractor factory to the big one on Wheatley Hall Road I think, which was my favourite place in the world when I was a kid.

In my home town of High Wycombe there was Embeesea en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embeesea_Kit_CarsThey only made a handful of each model to my understanding (mostly single figures) The "Charger" was very... err... of its time? But I kinda fancied the Eurocco I only became aware of them as I was sitting in the snug at Area 52 one day, having a cup of tea and reading the old mag pages pasted to the walls! Closer to where I am now, Chichester is I believe still home to Jago...

I had an update to post which I forgot to do. I went Tamplin huntin'. There are a number of old buildings along the railway in Staines which are old enough to have been the Tamplin works, but the reality is I have no idea what any of these building used to be and there was nothing in the way of clues. This is the building I hoped might have been the Tamplin works. It's quite an iconic 20s early Art Deco building although my cruddy photography doesn't show it, so it would have been a pretty new building when Tamplin were operating there. I have no idea what it used to be, however. It could have been a works at some point. Around the back, no further clues. It's styled quite differently at the back though, more in keeping with the mid-1800s style of the railway: Across the road is a current local cowboy mechanic car garage and source of all the local dumped tyres part-worn tyre garage. Again, no real clues round the back. It looks a bit more like it was a works at some point and there's a little yard which is very overgrown. Curious that all the windows are also boarded up. It looks like the back half is unused, almost derelict. Don't know if that pyramid-shaped roof gives away what it was once used for? Then along the way a bit is a dodgy secondhand car dealer probably all in each others pockets. This one is far too new and there is no sign of what was there before: There are some more derelict works buildings along the railway. It's really hard to tell what they once were. It looks a bit like a mill but I don't think there were any mills in the area. Edit: it's an oast house and is Grade II listed apparently. That'll probably be why it's just standing derelict. Reading the description "the oast section is rather taller with pyramidal roof (fishscale bands). Main section has 5 windows and a number of more recent openings" I wonder if it's listed incorrectly on the map and the back of the building in the pic two up ^^ is the one they mean? Mind you, it does also say it has a second floor. I'll have to go back...

Jonny69 the building with the funny roof looks like an oast house to me. Lots of them up in this part of the world converted to trendy flats etc. So Probably mislisted as you say.
