That's so interesting. Thanks for the link. I've started to read it. Might give me that bit of inspiration and the push I need. Clearly I'm going to say do it. I sold lots of things I loved to buy one thing I LOVED (and sort out a couple of the others) - and I regret absolutely nothing. Headspace, physical space, cash, all freed up, and a Lincoln Continental in my barn. Get it done dude.

Regarding which ones to sell, if you are feeling brave put all your cars up for sale at once, withdraw the unsold ones once you reach your target! Let fate decide!!! This!

1979 Capri (Rolling Project) 1985 Escort mk3 (Daily)

I understand this situation on a smaller level. I keep getting pestered to sell my Escort or Capri to buy a daily. Bought a daily alongside now so we'll see if it becomes more or less stressful with 3. The stress of the other two running right/ spending money on them so they can at least move has woken me up a few times. The Escort is my dream Car but i've become attached to the Capri now. I would say if its your dream Car the putting them all up for sale thing and see what sells is a good idea. In reality once they're gone out of site you wont think about them too much. Ever car i've sold and loved (usually gone for scrap) once its gone down the road and round the corner i'm on to the next one then. I think if i sold either of them the Escort would be a hard one but because it was my dream car so, Go for it... plus you will still have a few others anyway by the sounds of it.

As a serial car hoarder, this is a tricky one for me too. I've got 8 cars now. In theory 7 are roadworthy, although a couple currently need small jobs to be usable again. I also like having different sorts of cars - I don't understand people who own significant numbers of nearly identical cars. As a result, I've a van, a 2dr convertible, a city car, a big diesel estate, a small V8 saloon, a large luxo barge and a sleeper hatchback. And one car which is too shiny to take it out the garage. I'd probably ask yourself: 1) Are all of the cars I have now stored in such a way that they won't significantly deteriorate? Endless rust repairs and so on because cars are sitting out in all weathers isn't fun. 2) If a lot of them are projects that will take a lot of time, will they ever get done? If you don't enjoy the project phase, or won't get round to them, let someone else have a go instead and get something you can use

That's proper good advice as well. At one point I had two mk2 Golf GTIs with ABFs in them. Which was pointless. Especially when the rest of the fleet was much more varied and fulfilled different remits.

If I were in a position where I had six cars I was semi interested in, to buy one I loved. They'd be on ebay by the end of this sentence. I'd probably sell everything I own for an FD RX7.

Do it. It's great having loads of cars when they work, but you can't rotate them enough for that to be guaranteed. Any more than three or four feels like a massive pain in the , tbh. Write a list if you need help making the decision. Be ruthless. Having once peaked at 8 cars, this is good advice. I was spending upwards of £150 a month on tax, and thousands a year on insurance when most of them were simply not being driven. Too many were bought on a whim because they were sort of cool and had potential, but because I was spreading myself too thin none ever got done properly. I'm down to 7, probably 6 by the end of the week with another to shift before the end of the Summer. That'll do me. 5 max from now on 😊 And it meant I could free up space and capital for my newest car which is totally awesome.

Thanks for all the input guys.
To update, I spoke money with the fella today. I knew that the car was advertised for £13,500 when he bought it, and he openly admitted that he paid quite a lot less than that when he bought it. I get that he had two trips up to Glasgow to view, then buy, the car, and incurred all the associated costs, but I was a bit surprised when he said that, although he has only just bought it, he acknowledges that everything has a price, and I could have it tomorrow for £17,500! I had been prepared to go to £13,500, the original asking price when he bought it, because I knew he would make a few bob on that, but at £4000 more than that, it may still be a dream car, but it'll not be driven by me.

Hmm, 4k, quite a chunk of money.
What is the market price for the car considering he paid under the 13.5k asking price.

Wowsers. Would you break even or even make money if you bought and owned that for a good few years?
That's one way of mentally swallowing the 4k profit of your friend.

Sometimes friends are not that friendly BUT someone once said to me if they find a diamond in the street should they sell it to me for a tenner because it cost them nothing...forget what he paid for it it doesn't matter, if the going rate is £17500 and its worth it someone else will buy it, what if its worth £25k in 2 years you will be gutted ...its hard but forget what he paid for it, what if he did sell it to you for £13500 and then in a month you don't like it and you get offered £17500 would you give your friend the £4000.

Probably a bit off to jump on this thread, but if you do ever consider selling the 216 I'd love a heads up. Ta.
