Interesting little spot there. Regrettably however this sort of thing goes on all the time, please don`t anybody think this is in anyway unusual, and yes, it will be getting a coat of paint and stuck up somebody. There are thousands of people out there that earn a living out of this, day in, day out, all sorts of cars, in exactly the same way as greggs buy chicken pasties, bake them and sell them on. It`s an industry just like clocking, and while this Jag is being painted more salvage will be arriving in their yard/unit/rathole, just as bad, maybe worse.
On the other hand everything might be unstitched along the seams, everything welded back in properly and new parts welded back in where required, and all the welds may be just like the factory ones. There are companies that do this properly, but they always advertise the cars as what they are, and in some cases show the customer the wreck beforehand and tell them what is going in where.
But these places are vastly outnumbered by the ones that just tack everything together, cover it all up with filler and blow it in.
Can`t really blame the seller, he`s not exactly trying to hide anything.

Presumably if it's been a major write-off it will have to be inspected before it goes back on the road?

You mean the VIC inspection? Not even as stringent as an MOT, sadly, all they do is check the numbers to prevent fraud, no checking of welds etc. takes place.

Presumably if it's been a major write-off it will have to be inspected before it goes back on the road? Not if, as he says, it's not recorded. Basically, if you were to wrap your car up, get it recovered yourself and not claim on the insurance then it never goes on the register, therefore never has to undergo an inspection. Looking at the pics though it looks like the tin worm has started to get into the baremetaled bits on the seams, which means that even if it's split and spotted properly it's already got rust in it.

Got to admit - you know what you're getting! Who's worse - the guy selling as is - nothing hidden, or whoever fills it, blows it over and passes it on without any advisory notice. The running gear would make this worth a punt and banger the shell - see how the repairs really do hold up ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) it's honest at the minute - won't be after 'cosmetics'.

yeah 2.8 granny lump with a 4 speed box. Hve the rozzers round in no time checking the vin numbers!
Ok, if the job has been done properly and original seams used where sections have been replaced then it wouldnt be so bad but all the pillars have been cut and welded apart from the o/s/r one. Its a deathtrap!

Crikey!! I'm sure VOSA would be interested in that!! it appears to consist of "at least" 4 different cars all of which can't be unrecorded ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Is there a VOSA report number available?

If, as has been said it's done properly on factory seams etc, then no worries, just chuck it back on the road. But I wouldn't paint it ;D. Would be worth it for the look on the coppers faces! There was a Renault Clio kicking around these parts for years that had been repaired in a similar style and just left, don't think it had two panels the same colour and one rear quarter was two cos he'd joined it bang in the middle. Don't know how much hassle he used to get from plod tho for it. even a simple repair, badly done can come back to haunt you. I had a Metro that had had a rear quarter done at some stage. When I got hit up the 4rse in it the B post snapped (inner and outer skins) where the panel had been let in!
