Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread, or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Busy week this week, RR Events have the applications going live for Weekender, I'm off to Autosport on Friday to drum up some more interest in Quick60, Weekender and Gathering. Hopefully see if there are some people that are interested in discounts for Club Retro Rides (although the economic situation has changed since I last spoke to people about that ). I also need to get my curse word together and sort out promoting our RR merch, Club RR and generally give some love to the store. Google ad revenue has dropped by 40% year on year (even though we've got more site visitors year on year) due to a number of changes at Google and on various devices. So now where RR website side of things was barely breaking even (which is fine, I expect to put a bit of money into it all every year), it is not doing that by a significant amount. It is amazing how far we are from 2019 in that regard, I was looking to maybe being able to pay people for video stuff, as well as the newsletter stuff, not I'm navigating keeping the status quo. It isn't doom and gloom by any stretch, but sadly not as ambitious as I'd hoped to be. So yeah... busy week. Previous Thread: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/223811/chat-thread-new-year-me

I'll make sure to host any photo threads of mine on my own server space rather than RRs! Random Instagram goodness: http://instagram.com/p/Clmbq6SjQiV Forgotten retro. Looks so good in super clean white and on those wheels.

I'll make sure to host any photo threads of mine on my own server space rather than RRs! I actually solved all those costs at the end of last year. We now have our own dedicated server and absolutely slashed the hosting costs (and possibilities for doing cool stuff) as a result. Which was great and exciting for the possibility of resurrecting a couple of projects, then I reviewed the ad stuff from the last twelve months over the last week and was sad again. However the Image hosting is not a cost issue now days, which makes me very happy

As per previous weeks, the planned garage extension progresses at a pave the most glaciers exceed. This week's "progress" includes purchasing some roof trusses and the majority of the rainwater goods, still need to get fittings however.
Also on the list to buy are bolts for the garage panels, breeze blocks, sand and cement.
In non-car hobby stuff, I have nearly finished connecting the log burner back boiler, and the wife and i decorated the kitchen and main bedroom.
If nothing else I'm doing a passable impression of plate spinning i suppose...

I said before, I was going to do an impromptu podcast, when something was being discussed here (I think someone said we have the members here to do a podcast). We certainly have the no. of members here. To do it in person, I have the kit to make it possible ; Maybe not to the best of standards but certainly far better than just a PC, a headset or a load of phones. Online, would be interesting, but I suppose a ruleset could be put down. I'll see if I can raise a thread in the coming weeks ; this week and weekend are a wipeout however. This year has been more productive however, regarding a start in comparison to others, even if things haven't gone quite to plan! It's time the threads of mine were updated .

I did something very similar on Twitch during lockdown. Streamlabs/OBS software is very handy, you can bring in gusts via Skype so distance for hosting isnt an issue.... Another thing I've been banging on to friends about hosting, and I'd be happy to be involved here too

Another thing I've been banging on to friends about hosting, and I'd be happy to be involved here too For me, it’s getting the quality right , Zoom mics, some half decent microphones, which don’t have to be too pricey (Rode Wireless Go repurposed, thr Videomic, maybe even lav mics etc) aren’t too dear and do increase the quality, but it’s about others having that get and setting it up. I was once told folks can forgive an average video quality but not poor audio quality . But I’m happy to collaborate . If we are crowding out this thread, we can discuss it via PM . Hosting is a good shout.

Previous job was too tight to buy more than one bit of relatively specialist equipment so it was posted up and down the country every few weeks...

Today I'm back home after three days in London for a funeral. I'd brought tools over, and had service items sent out in anticipation of reviving her old Clio after four years in the garage. Failed at the first hurdle due to a sticky starter motor, so the Clio revive and rejuvenate thread I had planned to write today is obviously not happening. Shame. I guess it's stuck now, in probate hell. Got thrown a curveball on the train home as well, which will involve retro stuff. I'll post that up when I can.

Just reading this book I picked up for 2 quid at the Whitewebbs new year autojumble. Written in '96 it covers then up do date developments of the LSR, with Breedlove and Noble/Green going head to head but not yet succeeeding. But it mostly focusses on Art Arfons and his background/history. He's the guy who survived the fastest ever crash, at around 600mph. And tied his car to trees in the yard of his workshop to try out the afterburner. Great read and re-igniting my need to go to Bonneville one day.
