Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread, or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Things are moving at a pace here, behind the scenes. Firstly the full re-design of the site is picking up speed, this should be much more mobile friendly and able to suitably replace the existing mobile view with something a bit more modern and most importantly better. I'm not sure when people will be able to start testing this, I'm currently using it so I can keep on top of what needs doing and what doesn't work well. There are 11 things to do on my list and I'm averaging one a day, so maybe mid-Feb for first testers. Alongside that ToolsnTrack and ChasR have been working on a new Podcast for RR, with the first two episodes being Q&As between them to introduce themselves. Hopefully we'll see/hear the fruits of that soon. Previous Thread: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/223977/chat-thread-payday-wc-23

As some people may know, despite not liking anti-social driving on the streets, I do really like a Cannonball attempt. Given that the time set during lockdown looks unlikely to be beaten for a long while (if ever) new challenges are springing up. Coast to Coast to Coast is one such thing that seems to be gaining some traction. Red Ball Garage NYC to Portofino Hotel and back as quick as you can. These two (related) stories of the current record are great snapshots of what it takes: and If you want some context for the times, this is the standard Google Maps route from Red Ball to Portofino: ROUTE MAP FOR YOUR CANNONBALL42 hours.

I enjoyed watching this round-up of the '94 BTCC season yesterday
One of my favourite eras of racing, couple things I didn't notice before though. There's more instances of the drivers waving or gesticulating at each other in the cars than I remember there being, and I don't remember the V6 Mondeo sounding that good!

I was passed by an old Porsche on the M6 today. ...this one. Sounded absolutely mental. I pulled in for diesel at Stafford and there it was on the pumps. Looked proper, and props to the driver (who was wearing ear muffs) for not trailering it. Anyone got any info on it? Google brings up pictures but not much else.

Got to get a minor gearbox stripped this week so we can order parts to re-build it for my sons car, also need to find another Street ka hardtop for my daughters car after the rear screen shattered in the one I picked up yesterday. It'd be nice to find the time to work on my own cars.

Anyone got any info on it? Google brings up pictures but not much else. Can't help much, but it was at Goodwood Speedweek during Covid and is run by Maxted Page. Not sure who the owner is though. http://instagram.com/p/Ck6hGSFrTky

In theory my good friend is starting up garage night on Friday so I am looking forward to that massively. It's been 3 years (!) so I guess I am on garage food duties. His boy is now old enough to join us too Looking forward to that. Then I have a week off work next week so can do some tidying and spannering of my own. As Michael Ironside said in Total Recall: "It's about god d**n time!"

As some people may know, despite not liking anti-social driving on the streets, I do really like a Cannonball attempt. So what I'm trying to find out is who is the "official sanctioning body" for this now. There was a guy who ran it for years but I understand he gave up doing so some years ago. If I try find anything on Google 'bout it all I get is stuff on supercar tours and parties for rich poseurs. There are apparently record classes for the canonball, so fastest time in an import car, in an electric vehicle, in an emergency vehicle, etc. So if someone is managing these records and officiating them, who? Obviously they won't be advertising this too much, but hey, someone has to know... or is it as much of a free for all as just doing it yourself, posting results on YouTube and claiming your notoriety? This I doubt I have a reason for wanting to know....

There is a kind of form to doing a Canonball run, the photos you need to take, clocks, evidence etc. etc. The days of someone jumping in a car and doing it are long gone, there are now teams of people, spotters, all that kind of thing. The stories from the two Coast to Coast to Coast runs also shed light on the community behind it. A lot of these groups seem to know each other and know about the rumour that someone is putting it together. I'm not sure there is a sanctioning body asuch but I suspect Ed Bolian and his crew are the closest you get. I have a reason for wanting to know.... Planning your own? Fastest Sea to Shining Sea in the largest plushest 70's land yacht?

Planning your own? Fastest Sea to Shining Sea in the largest plushest 70's land yacht? I think to suit the film it'd be more fun to do it in something British. Rolls Royce Corniche or Jag E Type would pop to mind first, but I reckon a Bristol 407 or Jensen Interceptor would be better.
