So, there I was driving through Manc and I spotted a nice looking Hillman Imp, two-tone paint, sitting low on some minilite style wheels. I thought i'd pull over and take a look.
The car looked well enough, solid and all that, the spec sheet read alright, Talbot 930cc lump, lowered, fiesta front discs etc then came the shock, £5250
I'm all up for people trying to get the most for there car, but I cant see it being worth more than £1200-£1500 tops...
Who else has enquired about a car and found the seller wants the world for it?

Alass I don't know the fella! Just seems a tad (read thrice the price) i'd want to pay! I bought my completely rot free Imp for £500, granted it was 5 years ago, but still I'm mostly annoyed, cause it put it way out of my price limit...

That one? Shame he's selling I know what you mean about overpriced cars. Shame, but I guess it just shows how much the seller likes/loves it!

I know what you mean about overpriced cars. Shame, but I guess it just shows how much the seller likes/loves it! But to me is bad practice, cause no-one will buy it and he'll either drop the price and feel wibblepoo about it, or it will sit and rot... (K, prob not the latter) On the other hand, someone might pull up and stuff the readies into his hand...

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Or worse, some tw@t gets carried away and pays a silly price for something on Ebay then everyone's demanding the same outrageous price for rusty heaps of tat. (not a comment on this Imp btw, not knowing the particualr situation)

oh yes its the bert-mobile, your lucky actually,if you had seen it a month or two ago he had it up for 7 biggies, but i managed to talk him down a bit.Admittedly its a lot of dosh for an imp but i know for a fact he has spent a helluva small fortune getting that car the way it is,and it didnt help him getting ripped off in the first place by some so-called classic car expert who didnt even know what a manifold gasket was,YES really.

I don't think it s alway a lot to ask for a car like this. If its had all the work done and been "pimped" well, then the cost of doing the work and restoration will be a lot more. If i was selling any of mine id want a fair price, even if its just to get some money back for what ive put in

theres a ceiling price for any car. Doesn't matter what you spent on it, it only matters what the market will support. I could spend £10K on our '92 Mazda 626 but its still only worth £250 at the end of the day. One of the things I find uncomfortable about the recent retro trnd has been this idea (fuelled mostly by Mk2 Escort prices) that whatever old car you buy is worth cost of car + cost of parts + 10% for every scene tick-box it ticks. I don't see any Imp worth £5K unless its like some works rally car or something. I remember a guy with an AMC Javelin. Decentish, but tatty and probably worth £1000 - £1250 at the time as it had no MOT. Guy wanted £5K for it and thought that was a bargain because he'd seen one at Americana with a £10K price in the window. Same car I'm sure was recently up for sale T&T for £2K. Someone had a dose of reality along the way.

If you're in the market for one you have to ask yourself whether a) it's what you want b) you could build one for the same money. If the realistic answer to b) is yes you could then it's overpriced (in my opinion).
I know nothing of the car in the thread by the way so have no idea whether it's a good buy or not.
