I'm up to my ears in projects, broken cars everywhere. I am dealing with a guy to buy stuff for my "next big project" and had another semi-broken car delivered. I have no space so its stuck at my parents' house. When I was convincing myself to buy it I thought it would be an easy fix but now I have had it here for 5 minutes I can tell its going to be an expensive and protracted fix. The V5C-W is in Welsh and I can't transfer the ownership online so now I think "ah heck is this going to be another DVLA fight?"
I'm also also thinking about "saving" another old car I saw, getting Dez to sort out its main mechanical failures...
Wanna buy a bunch of broken cars?
Hmm?
Well, I don't think I am selling....
Its a disease...
I'm not the only one, am I?

In your defence, that is mean as ffffff. Also a point for the defence, it may not be a disease but it's definitely a disorder - I mean hoarding is classified as such right

The "new" me says have one and do it well.
But if it was cheap...
If it wasn't cheap, you're an idiot (probably, me too)

Of the 3 cars and 1 bike I own, only 1 of the cars is running and driving. Yet I would say every day I'll be idly browsing eBay or marketplace looking for what I'd replace it with.
Of course the money would be much better spent sorting out the other cars and bike but where's the fun in that! I have managed to limit myself to dreaming about buying things rather than actually doing it, like that Mercury that I'm glad you bought 😅

In case you were wondering whats tipped me over the edge But that looks ace! Who cares when you look that cool. As David Freiburger almost said, sometimes, it is better to look good than it is to be good. On a serious note, I used to be this bad myself. For years, I've had runners, but many moons ago, I was lucky to have maybe 2 cars running in a fashion at a time. For me, these were the reasons why I bought other cars -Hope : You have issues with the car you have, so you either park it up, or you sell it on, declaring it when asked as to what may be needed. You then buy another car, thinking it doesn't need much, and you picture yourself driving into the sunset with zero issues after a few mini-hurdles If only. I've probably managed that with a handful of cars. -Costs and hassle : This probably has changed today. I remember selling an E36 323i because it had an oil burning issue at random I thought it was stuck piston rings, as the oil was pretty black, even after servicing it, but it was probably the PCV. That, and I thought engine swapping was too much work. So what did I do? Look to buy either tired Audi TT 225s, R53 Minis, even a Mini 1275GT as a daily, before I finally got a very clean low mileage Clio. Did it not need work, and did I save cash? Of course not! £600 later, after a cambelt, dephaser and aux belt change, the car to be fair was pretty good for the next two years. I remember selling cars as they may have needed £500 on a variety of stuff (tyres, some dampers, AC regassing etc.) and then bought something else, which took the cash anyway. -Boredom : This is probably the one which affects us all. I did used to get bored with cars. Not often, but often enough. The last car I got bored with was my E91 325d. It was too good, too competent, and just that! Funny really, as when I bought it, I adored the car as a daily. It was a step up for most things had owned. It was big enough for me, quick enough, frugal enough and simple enough to work on with a good OEM parts supply. I thought me driving the S124 230TE would make me sell it. How wrong I was. As good as that S124 drove, it was a little tired, with dampers being slightly chattery, it slipping about on the roads with Chinese tyres, and even doing burnouts in the wet, along with 'older' car stuff. Even with the M3, as much as I adore it, I debate selling it at times, to try something new. Driving the E91 afterwards may not have had the cool factor, but it make me appreciate refinement, pace, a bank balance driving around for work, and more. Out of the 50 cars I've owned, I can probably count on barely two hands the cars which were truly good buys. That said, there is something about thinning the herd and getting big ticket items right. Maybe having a house as a project hasn't helped either.

That the one with slight issue of transmission slipping ? It’s a 4 dr version of uncle bucks car also isn’t it ? Thats the wrong-make-and-model "Bluesmobile" with the slipping transmission, yes. I've not seen Uncle Buck but I believe its some form of full size Mercury he drives in that. There's 2 statements about how movies ruin cars in one post.

FWIW, I also had the oportunity to buy this car 3 or 4 years ago when it looked like this... Its been a hard few years on this one. Previous owner also seems to have thrown away all the trim and badges and all the paperwork the car had for its history. WAY cooler than a fake Bluesmobile this was originally an undercover cop car in Missouri....

I do it.
Buy a car I don’t need, find all the issues the last owners lied about… spend the next month or so losing sleep, money, and my will to live.
Get it right…. Sell it at a loss.

I'm also also thinking about "saving" another old car I saw, getting Dez to sort out its main mechanical failures.. I'd say step away from the 1956 Armstrong Siddeley...but I too could see the potential in that one!!! Wow those 4 years have been hard on that car(and galls me no end using the completely wrong make/model for a movie tribute car). I will admit my vision for somethings potential has, on more than one occasion, blinded me to faults because "that'll get sorted when I do....[insert concept here]" which in turn creates lots of work, delays and spend!

I have the same problem - I bought another project car as the country came out of lockdown, intending to do a quick restoration and hopefully move it on, and not only have I still got it, but I'm talking to someone about another car. There is barely enough room in the shed now, adding another won't be easy and will make working on my daily car, or either of the two runners, more difficult. Sometimes I just look in the shed and wonder why I've got all this stuff around me.

I've been looking at those for a while, but thats not what else was on the options list, that one needs too much work. Wow those 4 years have been hard on that car(and galls me no end using the completely wrong make/model for a movie tribute car). It just takes one guy and... I mean, his car, his way and all that, but damn he ruined a nice car. But then, I got it cheap because of that. Shame he lost all the history for it. That I can't replace. Holy heck, I missed this one? Thats awesome.

I don't know, my brother bought a 20v coverted fox 2 weeks ago... I have already assimilated it.
I don't need it. I just wanted it. She hasn't figured out yet and it's in direct view. She said that I'm a really good brother for inspecting and working on it for him.
I have a sneaky feeling she follows me so gets notifications when I post. So she'll know soon enough.
Just means beemer has to go which in the grand scheme of things let's be honest isn't going to happen and if it does I make money overall as the fox was less money. Gaaaaah I'm justifying it, what am I saying it doesn't need justification, it's got a turbo and makes all the right noises.

I'm lucky in that I never have any space, even when I had money, and now I have no money (thanks to the semi destruction of the pensions industry for the last couple of years (looks to be improving now though)). I also promised myself I'd not end up as one of those people with seven unfinished projects, which I would 100% would be. Maybe when the Datsun is done I'll get something else. One which note ......... That yours? What's your '52 Chevy 2dr Coupe like?
