Had a cracking day today, started as I dug our Beetle out of the garage to take it over to our mechanic for a once over before its MOT next week, hasn't shifted since September but started on the first turn and ran great, forgotten what a nice car it is to drive... ...after a quick natter to my man in the know we headed off to investigate an old hill climb track a few miles from us, a while back I unearthed some information about this old track in a village near us, closed in 1974 and the site of a housing estate we'd tried to find it before with no luck but some hunting over Christmas revealed that the classic car club I joined last year used to run events there and had lots of info and a few pictures of it along with an outline of the track which matched an old foot path line you could see on Google Earth so with camera in hand we set off, it didn't look to promising to start with.... ...never one to be deterred we ventured through the gate and down the path, beneath the moss and weeds you could feel tarmac...

.....and as we ducked under a fallen tree blocking the way it appeared..... ...the bright green line in the middle is the top lip of the banking... ….as it used to be…

.....its well covered but still intact, about 5ft high and very steep, would have been perfect for "leaning" on during a high speed run... .....over the lip (accessed in true child like fashion by yomping through the woods and leaping a small stream ) theres a small drain outlet and a wall that supports it all... ....we wandered up the last accessible section of the route (the last left/right flick flak is hidden under too much undergrowth to distinguish)... ….we headed back down again. Amazing to think that people like Stirling Moss used to blast along here 30+yrs ago

I can't take credit for a lot of the work, chap called Steve Lovegrove from Hants & Berks MC has been on a mission for a few years gather details, I just followed his directions and used the old B/W picsto work out where the track ran

Good work Speedman!
Is it all still there then or has some been bulldozed and "developed"?

The old paddock area is a housing estate and I couldn't find the last 100yds of the track as it was too overgrown, but i'm heading back soon when I've got more time to try and find the rest
