That reminds me of a bloke I know who bought a MK3 Cortina years ago, got a puncture not long after buying the car, changed wheel and found punctured rim wouldn't fit in wheel well, boot floor was made of plasterboard , chicken wire and filler, and the "spare" was a 12" rim of a MK1 Fiesta ;D

Nice repair Matt - apologies, I didn't get to speak to you properly at the RR night. I wouldve turned up in the Big Six but found this lot just a few days before  and a quick camera shot of the inside proved I'll be replacing the whole thing in the near future........   What gets me is the way they chop out the rotten metal - then leave fresh air! - I think I know the culprit too....... good job I live this side of the water |

Most mk1 golf owners are awaire that the filler neck rots out yes ?, what most don't realise is the filler neck traps the crud to the strut mount/wheel arch at the top which rots out and then fills up the plastic cover over the fuel breather pipes rotting the lower inner arch and the chassis leg
