I have replaced the front axle and steering box... so it certainly feels a lot tighter now...

I thought all Rapids were rack and pinion, using the same kit as the later wide track Estelles?

No one is buying at the moment, at work we've been stugglin to sell some really nice original mini's with zero rot (both mini 30's, and both less than £2k, with a years MOT and 6 months tax each!), not cheap cars, but cheap mini's.
My 1302 struggled to sell, to be fair, the hammerite and lack of engine haven't helped, but I managed to swap for a cool wedge, which I'll either sell on, or fly about in for a while...

Hmm....this is ringing the right bells for me at the moment! What's it like with reliability? It would be my first car so I don't want anything too quirky. What's the lowest you'd go to for a quick sale? I am very interested but wouldn't be able to commit until the end of the week.

let me know how it goes... its priced to sell ! Reliability wise... its been great... i drove it 60 miles a day for 6 months with no probs... if you've never driven one of these... they are great fun... its like a little go-kart yada yada yada!! I would say it was the perfect first car for the hands on retro lover!! everything simply bolts together etc... and no rust, so no welding worries... so just stick on new tuning bits as you can afford them...

Murph, you can't go wrong with a Rapid/Estelle if you want to learn motor maintence basics. They run for ever if you keep up a decent maintenance schedule. It isn't like a modern car, you can't leave the oil/water every 6 months. It needs the points checking regularly, water and oil checked weekly, tappets adjusted every couple of services, idle and mixture adjusted every so often.
Generally it isn't hard work. About 10 minutes every sunday morning, regular (1-2 times a year) servicing and check everything over before the MOT, just like you would any car.
Driving is great, everything is really cleverly laid out, things might seem wierd until you work out why. If I had some money I would have another one to go alongside the Octavia.
