It's BIG:It's FAT:Dead Cows:Vroooooom VROOOOOOM:Where to put the bodies:Its a big old Merc, been my gf's car since October and now she fancies something different. She has a short vehicular attention span... MOT until August, tax runs out end of February. 3 litre, straight six, 180-odd bhp so goes ok but surprisingly light on the go-juice. 4 speed auto-box with selectable sport mode. 137k miles (ish), just run in. All fluids are good and the engine is sweet as. Superb brakes with ABS, really very good. Full complement of toys and electric things that go up and down and round and round when you press the appropriate buttons. Sunroof sticks however so doesn't go anywhere. Drives in a beautiful roly-poly way, you aim it more than steer it. Lux suspension when new, squashier now. Occasional clonk from front right. Still very capable but it's no Elise. Comfy & spacious black leather interior, dashboard veneer has aged less gracefully in part. Body basically sound but a few small areas of bubbling are starting to show. See pics. Telling it like it is. This is a great car that is a little frayed at the edges now. The old bruiser still has real road presence and people do look/behave differently when you drive it, weird but true. I'm not a fan of big luxobarges but I have a real soft spot for this car. Could be run as is indefinitely or slammed on big rims if that's your thing. Buy yourself a REAL Mercedes. They don't build them like this any more. £600ono

That's a lot of car for the money! Especially nice as no-one has fitted chrome wheelarches to it.
If only I had space (and I'd need a fair bit of it!) oh and money!

Listen to the voices, they might just be right... We're in Central Scotland, very near motorways, train stations, airports etc.

That looks very tidy, nicer than my SEL anyway! Doesn't appear to have much rot in 'the usual places' either. Nice car for the money, shame it's not a V8 tho

I'm sure a straight six could be made to sound nice and musical. Straight through exhaust anyone?!

Nice car for the money, shame it's not a V8 tho Its what I would call an "across the street" car. ie. it looks great from across the street! The interior could be better, it does have bits of rust and the lacquer is lifting in a couple of places but it is basically ok. Advantage of it not being a V8 is that it doesn't drink like a V8 ;D I think it is fairly priced given that we want to actually sell it

That is a nice car. If I can sell the Octavia, I would give up on an LPG rangie maybe for that. Anything on it that might cause MOT problems, or give grief on a lolong run?

Only obvious thing that might be an issue at MOT time is the occasional clonk I mentioned from front right suspension. Maybe a tired bush? Depending on driving style, you'll get 30+ mpg on a run. Mid 20s in normal use. Less if you boot it everywhere but you don't have to thrash it to make decent progress and anyway, it doesn't really suit the car. We bought it over the web, flew to Stansted and drove it straight back to Scotland without ever having even seen the car. Didn't miss a beat. Its been in regular use since so should be no bother.
Disclaimer: Its a 21 year old car so no guarantees given... Weird stuff can and does happen with old cars ;D

The clonk from the front right could be a wishbone balljoint - I've just bought 2 to do on mine, less than a tenner each, and not overly tricky...
