you may be too late for that sierra i posted, (see below this thread) it needed a replacement CVH (v cheap), it had 3 weeks MOT, and even months of tax. he wanted £50. not responding to pms, if its still there i'll bump the post.

On our local one you always get people asking for 'a newer shape Micra with T&T must be mint'.

I file them with the same twunts asking for a widescreen / plasma telly or free centrino laptop. Idiots.... and the fugging sob-stories you get are worthy of the booker prize.. we gave away a perfectly good washing machine on there and had literally hundreds of begging fools with tales of woe like 'I've got 7 children and a mountain of washing'.... should have had a vasectomy then, or tried harder at school. one freecycle member regularly asks for a DVD recorder and widescreen TV - must be able to deliver!!!!!!

i sent them a reply with a link to Comet and Argos and in capital letters " THERE YOU GO CHEEKY BAST@RD'

it amazes me that the moderators allow them to post - yet when i asked for
'ford spares pre-'84' - i was accused of re-selling them on ebay by the moderator and they refused to post up the request.

i sometimes post up things i havent got - just to see how many replies you get (eg LAPTOP - over 120 replies, some bordering on begging)

I've fallen out with my local Freecycle - they NEVER let anything I post onto the board (not put location on, even though I've said where I'll collect from) and on another occasion, that I was offering to collect from too far away and it wasn't environmentally friendly!

But there's some corkers that are allowed to post - "Wanted: DVDRW drive for laptop" (well they're close on £100), Taxed cars wanted (yeah right-oh, even if I gave one away I'd chop the tax in!) and on one occasion I got a email mouthful from some girl that wanted a TFT monitor so she could finish coursework. When I pointed her towards a perfectly good 17" CRT one, she moaned that it wasn't flatscreen - presumably not posh enough.

The only message I ever got on, after 5 retries, was for a Boa Constrictor - got 55 replies in one day, 50 of which were just "yeh i want ur snake ring me 07xxxxxxxxx" or equivalent.

These days I just fill the car with junk and taking it to the tip. Screw freecycle, if the beardy types weren't so moronic I'd pass it on. Today I have two PC base units missing various bits, a monitor, a tabletop dishwasher and lots of clothes all going to clutter up the lovely lovely countryside

The tips tend to recycle more now i think if junk is sorted, special places for electricals and scrap metal. GF tried freecycle, but got harrassed with all the emails generated.

I virtually gave away my old Polo to the GF's friends as they were short on cash, basically for the price of the tax, they crashed it and threw a load of money at a second hand dealer, for a shonky over priced Fiesta mk4

The Milton Keynes freecycle seems pretty good not too much begging unless for realistic stuff - got shot of an oven, a backdoor, a window - all stuff that would have been a pain to tip and they came colected them within hours. Best thing I got off there was a bin liner full of jiffy bags (handy for ebay) and 5 years back issues of Pracical Classics mags - nice toilet reading!

Worst begging we had was "my hifi has broken I need a new one, must be seperates, need MD, Tuner, Amp, Cassette, Deck, CD etc - as that I what I had before, want good brands like marantz, teak etc" If he had seperates before how'd me manage to break all of them?

it sounds like a good idea that has been ruined by

a) chavs expecting something for nothing
b) moderators getting power crazy as they have little else to do

Probably works well somewhere like Holland, where something intangible like community spirit is still valued.

yes, most stuff from the tips ends up at the local car boot sale / market

i know a bloke who buys hifi and computer gear and ships it to Ghana - he regularly spends 300 quid a week at the tip - he must make a killing back home - he wont get me a XR6 though

i know someone whos full time job is working at a tip
hes not actually employed there,they give him a free hi vis vest and hes got his van parked alongside the tip area!
he takes all the tvs hifi and electrical and has contacts who come round and buy it from him
he doesnt of course get paid for this work,and he gives the site foreman £300 a week for the priveledge
cash of course
then a few select nigerians etc buy it all off him a couple of quid per item

guess its better than landfilling it over here,it gets shipped off in a container ship

oh yeah theres someone else on furniture
and someone else comes for the bikes
not sure how much they give to the "cash donation" fund

I took up an offer of a free car on Freecycle and gave the lady a tenner for it coz I felt guilty about taking it for nowt even though it was advertised as being free. I suggested she gave it to charity and she said she would. Anyhow it was too far gone for my limited mechanical skills (had wanted a car for my son to do up) so I `sold` it to a member of another forum for the £10 I paid for it and he gave me another ten spot to deliver it. I gave the money to charity (well, my missus put it into a cancer charity`s collection tin) and the woman who owned the car found out I`d got rid of it and hit the roof.
I pointed out I`d given her money for it despite it being free and what I got back was given to charity and asked what charity she`d given the tenner to. Oddly enough the miserable old bat didn`t get back to me.

I could do with some RAM to fit my 3 or 4 year old DELL and the tabletop dishwasher might be of use to me as a parts washer unless you tipped it all already?

I've generally had good experiences on Freecycle. Not much in the way of car parts (just a parcel shelf for a late model Golf), but two Kayaks and some decent furniture. The local Freecycle groups seem to be pretty fairly run. Not too much begging.

Of course I bung some of the stuff I get onto eBay.
