On some other forums (fora?) I use / used they have had a read only area where posts made by members can be copied to if they are either of exceptional brilliance or answer often asked questions.
This means instead of the favourite cry of "use the search button" people can be directed to the archive instead.
This is better of r a few reasons...
1. "use the search function" is often a bit rude and can be off putting to newbies
2. The search function doesn;t always turn up what you want anyway and often turns up loads of stuff you didn;t want you need to wade through
3. An archive is just cool anyway.
Stuff I'd have thought we'd punt into there would be such as:
Slaters Banded Wheels 101
Posts with recommended suppliers in (threaded as one thread)
My post on importing from the USA (not typing all that out again)
Whoever it was did a great post in importing from EU
Whoever it was did a great post on importing from Japan
And a bunch of others
Number of times I've read something and thought "this should be in an archive or something so it can be found again later easily"
Obviously only mods should be able to add stuff to the archive and it should be copied not moved from the forum it came from and only the pertenant stuff not all the "thanks" or "me too" posts...
Whadddya reckon?
