Seems to be a pretty sound car, Love it I think I have the same(ish) engine in my spitfire, Wonder if the GT6 6 cylinder engine would squeeze in like it does in the spit... On a more sensible note, Is Dinitrol any good? Its a very sound car! Only bits that are bad are the ends of the front wings, which really need replacing. It is exactly the same engine as the Spitfire (if the spit is a 1300!) bar the twin carbs. A mate of mine has a toledo engine in his mk1 spit. I'm not sure if the 6 would fit I suspect it would be a bit of a squeeze, it would be fun though and a bit different to the Dolomite sprint conversions especially with 2.5pi power ;D As for dinatrol I got it because its got good ratings in several practical classics tests so thought I might give it a go. I've got hammerite waxoyl for the underside.

Finished cavity waxing, got through 2.5litres in the end. Also Been under and scraped off any old underseal and redone with fresh waxoyl. Also fitted some extra gauges a while back, voltmeter, ammeter and vacuum gauge. I only ever bothered wiring in the voltmeter, until now. I was told I should take off the manifold and drill it to fit an adaptor, but found a much neater solution that required less work! ;D Got a carb spacer with vacuum take off from minispares, and some silicone vacuum pipe. all fitted and working! I'm not going to bother with the ammeter instead fit a much more useful oil pressure gauge. Next week I'm stripping a rotten Dolomite 1500HL for bits, which should provide a 3.89 :1 diff which should improve the Toledos cruising speed no end (currently is a 4.11 :1) and bring the revs down at 60! Other bits I want are the rear suspension struts for rebuild with new gas shocks and anti roll bars if the 1500s got any.

Helped brake the Dolly 1500 on thurs, which turned out to be a slightly scruffy triumph 1500tc not a 1500hl so no anti roll bars. I did how ever get lots of other usefull bits, complete rear axle and suspension. I've going to clean it all up chassis black the bits, polybush and fit new gas shocks the victim, will provide lots of parts for the sprint race car above it

Update! Start poking the rust above the drivers side headlamp, I bunged some filler in it a few years ago to keep it looking respectable (2007 according to this thread!) But now its time for a more permanent solution. This is where i've got so far: hopefully have sourced a wing end via the Dolomite club, the inner headlight retaining panel is also in a bad way so if I can't get a replacement I will have to make one up. also : thats the end of the chassis leg have managed to get my mini air cutter in there to cut all that out I will make a patch to go over that.

current state of play entire car is covered in this this schutz stuff which is a sod to get off even with the blow torch! Small piece of grot needed to be cut out at the side of the chassis leg but this does mean when I weld up the end of it I can weld it from both sides and get some paint on there. I think I will be having a close look at the making panels thread! Got to neaten up where i've cut first.

some progress at last after cutting the rot out there wasnt that much left! I had to cut quite far into the front wing in order to do a decent repair on the inner eye brow bit, also had to replace alot of the headlamp retaining panel. Rebuilding the eye brow bit was guess work really as there wasnt much left of the original panel. Still i'm quite pleased with the results. The cut line in the eye brow I've left incase it need any adjustment when the wing goes on. Got a couple of front wings from a Dolomite club member, Irritatingly its had something heavy land on it during transit So there is a big dent right on the bit I need. I can use some of the original wing (the bit with the intergrips in the above pic) still new wing needed a small repair but nothing like the original! to compare: Also I'm part way through replacing all the suspension bushes that I havent already done with nice poly ones.

Don't know what is happening on the other side, but just to let you know, the Dolomite club now stock eyebrow panels in GRP.

wings in primer i've ordered some paint, here is a half arsed filler shot: got some NOS BL bits did aload of this type of thing: angle grinder+ wire wheel attachment, zinc primed, chassis blacked, Polybushed and new nylocs! new flexi hoses too! did the front too, most of the bushes now are Poly or new rubber ones. stuff welded up, etch primed, under sealed got into the chassis leg with some rust eater stuff then zinc primer. I've also drilled a hole In the chassis leg and filled it up with cavity wax, grommet back in the hole Mot man seemed happy with that! got mot, no advisories been driving about with a primered wing. Sprint wheel on the front was an ebay purchase, one my my sprint wheels has always lost all its air after a couple off weeks despite being resealeds a fair few times. Strangly the new wheel is perfect although looks like its sat in a ditch for a decade, I got the tyre swapped over and its hasen't lost any air yet!. I forgot how fun this little car is to drive and how much more economical it is over my Saaab. I've ordered a rear antiroll bar for the 1850/Sprint as Rimmerbros has them on offer. Next jobs apart from paint the wing, drive it more.

cheers, its probably the slowest resto thread on RR! Still found a spray can of carmine red in the garage: I think i'm going to end up spraying the entire front end, the rest of the cars paint seems to respond well to G3 on a mop. Sprayed Dinitrol in the nooks and crannys:

Slots!!! Thanks to Bob (hurnleft) collected these from Norwich today: should be a bit of a change from the Sprint wheels. 13" 5.5j dated 74. Same size as the sprint wheels so I can use the tyres off them. Also anti-roll bar arrived, cleaned it up, panel wipe, etch primed then painted it glossblack tahti blue left over from a model kit

The work on the front wing is very impressive!
Intrigued to see what the car looks like wearing the slots. I've got a Carmine Toledo too, so have been weighing up wheel options.
