Hey y'all, thought I'd show you my two rides! First up, my 1972 Beetle 1300 - given a mild resto by myself (paint was done professionally), and a few weenie upgrades like a CD player and comfier seats. Had it over a year and half now, been driving it for about a year Not a modded classic as such, but still... NOW HAS ITS OWN THREAD. This will be a K70 thread from hereon in. Next, my uber-rare watercooled VW, a K70 - bought for £350 recently, it needs some bodywork. It's currently in pieces awaiting a respray, which I myself am going to administer this time . When finished, it'll sport a couple of period modifications, but nothing too mad. Don't want to damage/remove any parts which I can't replace. Not bad for a 19 year old, eh? ;D

Welcome aboard buddy. That K70 was an absolute bargain!!! Leave the respary, just slam it and get some wheels on it. Rumour has it there's a K70 located within half a mile of my house. Supposedly it's just sitting in someones garage, untouched since the 70s

Thanks for the kind words, folks! They are both stunning cars, was the K70 VW's 1st FWD car? Can't be many left now anyway, I seem to remember them being an NSU with VW badges and marketted after the VW buyout of NSU? Correct me if I'm wrong though. You must be proud of these mate, and rightly so. You are quite correct, the K70 was VW's first attempt at a watercooled FWD car, using an NSU design they acquired when they bought the company. Much of its technology was plundered for use in VW's own later FWD watercooled cars. And there aren't many left - 800 RHD cars were made, of which around 20-30 are still on the UK's roads. This one had actually floated around eBay for months without selling, until one day the owner put it on with a starting bid of £350, and if nobody bid the car was going to be cut up. Obviously, I wasn't about to let that happen, so I bid with 1 minute to go. And I was the only bidder. So this car was, quite literally, a minute from death!

Your K70 is the nuts, good work on saving it. I love it.
I remember it off the bay, the lad that was selling it was clearly a total flange as he advertised it several times with clearly over-optimistic reserve prices, eventually the tax was just about out so he had to get shut quickly, still would not take less than 350 though. Complete w***er.

That K70 is fantastic. There was one at Dubfreeze 2004, same colour, but had a beigey interior.

gorgeous pair of cars! Always nice to see a K70, and that bug looks just ripe for some 70's accesories and a 'resto-cal' treatment!

Am i right in thinking that the K70's lump is unique to that model? If so spares must be a mare!!

Yea, the lump is a 105bhp 1800, and unique to the model. Happily, the car came with tons of spares, 2 carfuls, including an entire spare engine in pieces
