why not whack a manual box in it while the engine is out? type 9 pinto boxes must be easy to come by? and I should think that it cant be too hard to find a pedal box from a manual capri either?

Engine isn't out - it's my daily runner whilst at uni, so all the work that is being done on it is whilst I have to run around in it and regularly do the 300mile odd round trip home every now and then. I have a couple of spare heads sitting around to work/practice on.
Whacking a manual in is not as small a job as it sounds, besides I have the 2.8 for all my perverse manual needs f'nar.
p.s. spent most of the day steel wooling all the surface rust and imprefections off and making sure all the ports and seats and valves are all shiney and pwetty.
Here's a Q - should i lube the valve stems? I'm thinking not but thought i'd ask.

Well carb is f**cked. One of the springs has gone... PING ... so whenever you leave it to idle it dies as the revs go down. Which made an interesting 200+ miles today for the RR day and back home.
It recorded a frankly terrifying 82bhp and 110lb ft! Found some twin 40 dellortos from the local capri guru Bob - it'd be rude not to with the current one borked.

Nah - I decided that to get the head on i'd have to bodge it really so instead decided to take my time, get it all cleaned up good and just use this as a 'before' run.

I've thought about getting a manual fitted, but apparently you need to drill new gearbox mounting holes, sort the electrics, pedals and clutch etc, and possibly get a new prop! too much work i think! when you say u have a 2.8 is that a capri too? or something else?

Well finally got round to such a minor job as getting a new carb on there. Now have some idle, which is nice, and a nice tan from the worklight. I will get round to fitting the head tomorrow, as well.

Lovin the rat look! Got a set of 2.8i alloys lying round if u want some cheap alloys, and my mates capri just went backwards off a round-a-bout (seems to happen to 90% of capris!) so theres a lightly tuned 2ltr pinto with luminition and a set of decent shocks going cheapish. But do me one favour, buy an 'A' or 'X' frame kit for the rear end to stop that axle killing the car and u!

heheeh, yeah I'll get some sort of rear axle placement sorted.
What really annoyed me: Losing one of the triple angled, one piece, oversized, stainless steel valves: this is going to cost me methinks.

Well there's nowt on the tv, so: Amazing how snug a sub zero street it if you have a worklamp and a pint of hot coffee Can you tell what's missing? Just boshing the rebuild kit on it at the mo: Of course I had the brainwave to fit the manifold/downpipe after taking the carb off. So now I can't start it to tell how loud it'll be. As there's not much more planned for the exhaust. I might get round to fitting a Jetex silencer and 45 degree bend.

For some reason i've managed to miss this thread until now..... STERLING work squire! Be interested to know what happens with the performance cam coupled with the auto box.... cant see anything catastrophic happening..... wonder why its 'not reccomended'? Anyhoo, keep up the good work!

Well due to hectic month of work over christmas this is the first time it's been touched mechanically-wise since the last update. Anyhoo began stripping the ancillaries off the completely not oil tight pinto in there. Managing to snap a bit off the inlet manifold in the process - tats!
It's being held in with just the engine mounts. Will get that loosened tomorrow as i start lifting the engine out. Then the real fun of getting the manual engine to fit to the auto box begins - can't wait.

Stuff: Port matched inlet for the hot head, and some lowering blocks. Really low lowering blocks. Should get some results tomorrow, will post pic-age then ;D

Almost poster material this, like a shot from a dark film or summat! So is the capri gonna be the track funster then? whats plan for the other 2?

Only the other 1 at the mo (the 2.8). Hopefully will be another one soon.
The plan with this is to finally get the box out and fit a manual 5speed, and use it as a daily burner, the saab has the official track slag role.
The 2.8 is a nice spec so will just be put back to standard and given some paint.
