Ha, what a few days. Me and matt did the engine hokey-cokey... into... looks like... and sounds like... It was really good getting cracked on with it, although we'd have had it done much quicker had my clutch and other bits and bobs arrived on time. Stealthstylz has been an absolute godsend, couldn't have done it without you (or my mums bacon butties ), cheers mate But alas, it's to come out again, something like 8hrs running and 40 road miles later and something is amiss (maybe a spun bearing, we'll find out this week ) . But it'l be back, harder and stronger, sometime in the next couple of weeks D

Well, i feel a little daft. My dad decided to take the day off work to try and get the engine out so we could order bits, got to spliting the engine and box, and found the flywheel loose. so he torqued it down, put it back together again and were rocking. I can get back on with running it in D

Its been awhile. As we stand at the moment the escort is unavailable. It ran out of MOT in the middle of December and its the first time Ive SORN'd it since I bought it way back in early '06. After a 10's of thousands of miles and 5years hard use, its in need of abit of a freshen up. I'm not looking for a showpiece (not my style) just an honest, used, Escort. Ive taken it up to my tame bodyshop and it will be there until at least June I'd have thought. The plan is to get it back about a month before RRG11 to give me time to give it a shakedown. Theres no big changes planned, apart from I'll be able to use the boot as it'll have a boot floor again, there may be a change of wheels and I think I'll be loosing the boxes out of the exhaust. Straight-through pipes are FTW A couple of very recent pics (on my way to drop it off) I've just realised this is the longest Ive been without it... bah I might have to go up to the barn on Tuesday just to have a look at it

So, yeah, theres been some progress. Theres holes where the rust was (and there was some rust too, let me tell ya!) and a pile of panels accumulating beside it. Inner and outer sills, floorpans, a battery tray for under the bonnet (although, I'm tempted to tell him to weld it into the boot somewhere) infact, the only panel I can't find is a bootfloor. We might have to get creative. Has anyone ever used a boot floor out of something else? Maybe something with a sunken spare wheel well... Still on target to get if back late June/early July to give me a good month to MOT it and run around in it making sure nothings going to fall off.... I think I'll give the brakes a small going over, fresh pads and such, and a bloody good service before doing a 1000mls in August. That'll be noisy, hot, pretty uncomfortable but huge fun

Boot floors? Overrated IMO ;D That must be some hole to warrant a whole floor, no chance of repair?
|
|
Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

Yeah, it'd repair, and I think that'll be the way we go with it. I'll get up there and rattle some pics off for us all to have a laugh at

Guess whats back in my yard as-of this afternoon.
Its not pretty, but its very, very solid. It even drove home ok to say Ive not used it in 7months.
Need to give it a full service, sort the exhaust, fashion electric washers for the windscreen (anyone think of an easily wired inline pump off something modern-ish that I'll find in a scrappy??) and give the brakes the once over to make sure I'm totally happy with it. Then MOT, tax and run it for a couple of weeks...
All that to do in the 11days I'm not at work between now and RRG. This could be interesting....
