Haven't updated this in a while - not been doing much to justify an update i suppose! Well its cold outside and that seems to be when i work best on the Magnum for some reason - got a good vibe going for the car now. Anyway, i've been playing around with the engine as it wasn't running and i had started hooking up the original throttle return springs when i figured i'd need a new throttle cable made up. But why get one to fit the original carb when i'm gonna put those twin solexes on? So, i've been making enquiries and mockups of an inlet manifold to stick those on there. Today i left the prototype in with some handy people who are gonna give it a go for me - fingers crossed on that one. Anyway, big gap in the bay now! I was also pulling apart the dash today fitting the 7dial Firenza dash i got aaaaaaaaaages ago (this car has been a work in progress for too many years now!). Got the old twin dial unit out and the resulting tangle of wires all marked up then moved onto figuring out what goes where on the 7 dial version. Obviously i have a few more things to connect like the clock and the rev counter but that shouldn't be too difficult. Looks great in place too: (i know its sitting out a bit but that's cos i needed to be able to take it out without hassle)

Its pretty cool in the flesh. Hopefully i'll get these carbs running right now as its something i've wanted on the car for a long time. Oh, and defo go looking for Vauxhalls - the Griffin rules! My two favourite cars i've owned are both GM group (the Magnum and the GT) even if neither of them are going at the moment!!!!!

Its not that dead to be honest; hole in radiator, leak in fuel tank and i have a master fuse to replace plus the driver's window. Other than that its golden. Wouldnt mind a redtop for it though............

I get a twitch whenever I see a Viva, Firenza or a Magnum. My old man had a couple of them and I spent many a summer day pushing the bleeding things around roundabouts with the old fart yelling at me and other hot and annoyed motorists blaring their horns at me. Just a teenager I was and I've a permanent tick from the experience.
This looks like the sh1t! Even though those modern wheels were big and looked silly on your car, they certainly filled the wheel wells nicely ... maybe the outside diameter was ok?

Glad you like it Steve, and nice childhood story too! Ha! There'll be no big wheels going on this though - i've got about 4 sets of old alloys/steels to choose from for it and I think it looks better on them.

HI Leigh, just a quick question. How much flake did you need for the 4 wheels?
Thanks

No YOU'RE a pervert!! ;D LOL ^^ Does look class, what's this about a redtop going in over xmas? ;D I think he is just messing about and likes trying wheels on lol those wheels look well mate No redtop for this Niall, i had been thinking of putting one in the GT but funds do not allow it And Carmad, you've hit it completely on the head - i am substituting actual progress by fannying around with wheels! HI Leigh, just a quick question. How much flake did you need for the 4 wheels? Thanks I've used about (how do you measure this?!?!) an A5 sheet sized bag of 'flake so far - i've just been judging it by eye but the rule is PUT LOADS ON. Seriously, you can put too little on but you cant really do too much as the more there is the better it comes out. Just gently tap down the high flakes or ones that are sitting up and then bury it all in loads of clear. Clear is very important, you can prob see that in the pics and i still haven't sanded/polished the wheels correctly yet
