Thanks guys
Collected it from the painters last weekend :
..and finally got it back home in the unit :
The passenger wing / front panel gap that I had problems with has turned out okay :
The' big rebuild' consisted of me refitting three new rubber grommets but you have to start somewhere , right ?
..and they fit along the front panel aperture like so :
..so that the front grille lower lugs have something nice to locate into .
Did a little bit more this weekend :
Liberated some tat from one of the lockups
Found some shiny bits too :
^ New tailgate lock and new door lock found at one of the Billing autojumbles .They're not matching which means I'll have a bunch of keys like a door stop but at least they'll look shiny.... Chrome door striker and chrome tailgate latch via German Ebay.
Got a new pair of chrome door handles , can't remember where/when I got them though - probably Ebay :
Couldn't find the nuts for the back of the handles but the original estate doors were kicking about so they donated them :
Got some new door lock gaskets from Germany :
The tailgate one won't actually be any good as I'm using a Chevette lock rather than a Kadett one and they're different but it was still worth buying the kit for the two door lock ones.
Gasket fits on the door lock like so :
..and lock and handle now on :
New tailgate lock was a Billing autojumble find :
The original Kadett lock was similar to the door lock and the tailgate had a separate slim black plastic handle on it but I never liked it tbh . I do prefer the chrome Chevette lock/handle , much nicer on the eye..
Was at the car boot sale one day and an old boy was selling these locking wheel nuts :
They were marked up as 'Mondeo' and they were £3 . Turns out they're the same thread and exactly the right pitch required for the alloys for the Kadett. They're 'McGuard' nuts too which appear to be of heavier/better quality than the last set of locking nuts I bought from the local accessory shop...
Got the other 12 wheel nuts ordered up from Firenzaboy on this very forum. Bought some for the Firenza from him and they're spot on , great quality . Not cheap but I'm only buying them once.. :
That meant I could borrow my wheels back fom MickyJ who'd been using them for a few shows earlier this year :
So wheels back on , new nuts etc :
The plan was always to use Chevette bumpers as they're a bit slimmer than Kadett ones and I just prefer the look of them .
On the Kadett City hatch they put the rear number plate in between the rear lights which I've never liked the look of . So by moving the number plate down to where it should be ( like on a Chevette ..) I can use the Chevette bumper and the Chevette number plate light :
^ New old stock , another Billing find .
I've got a really good pair of square headlights , can't remember where I bought them now but more than likely from a forum chap , somewhere..
They may look a bit grubby but the lenses and adjusters are like new so they'll just need a bit of a clean up and they'll be fine .
I got some 'new old stock' Hella front indicators a few years ago now . They were being sold as Manta A series ones on Ebay ( same as early Kadett ..) and they were quite cheap .
Only downside to the C1 Kadett indicators is they stick out like a sore thumb so to try and soften them down a bit I got some clear indicators from Germany , could really do with a chrome bulb in them though :
And again , downside to aftermarket lenses is they don't fit over the metal lip of the body like the original orange fellows so I'll more than likely give the exposed lip a rub down and a lick of paint .
Headlight , indicator and grille back in :
Still think I might do behind the grille in black though :
..more next weekend ..
