In September I gave up my home and moved into the workshop. Incredible. It sounds like you've been having a real curse word of a time, and I think everyone here would agree that we're all rooting for you. Glad it's all coming together for you now, and can't wait to see what happens next with everyone's favourite project. Great to have you back, chief. ;D

This is an amazing thread! It's great to see you back on your feet & posting again Street. I know how financial troubles can make a person completely miserable & depressed. I'm lucky I met someone special (who I'm marrying later on in the year) & managed to get myself out of the financial mire I'd got myself into. Take your time with the build, don't give yourself any impossible deadlines, enjoy yourself & all the very best for the future ......... go for it!!! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Street, you're a legend. Not only do you spend ages writing up your endeavours on this forum for the delectation of others, but you give up your home and live in a workshop to save your project. Sir Street, I salute you! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I hope that your new-found stability is lasting, and that the project goes according to plan.

Awesome build. I have plans to do a twin engined vehicle at some stage. Had thought of 2 bike engines mounted in the back of a 4WD Daihatsu Hi-Jet (Rascal type van) and have one engine driving each diff. I shelved that idea because the front diff would be spinning in the wrong direction (found out later that it would be easily solved). Then I bought a Subaru Brumby (Brat) to put 2 WRX engines and running gear in but the Brumby chassis is too narrow so scrapped that idea. So I now have an Aussie Torana Hatchback that I was going to put 2 WRX motors and running gear into. But I got absolutely shot to pieces on the Torana forum for even thinking of that idea - everybody said it wouldn't work and was a stupid idea etc etc. So now I have my eye on a 2 door Impreza shell and if I save enough money to get it I will definitely be putting 2 WRX motors in that. The good thing about Subaru is that the rear diff cradle can be made to accept the gearbox so you can use the rear chassis, suspension, brakes etc exactly as they are.
Couple of points about this build though :
From the photos the rear chassis members don't look strong enough.
The front chassis that you have made to fit inside the floorpan don't look like they have enough depth in them - this is where they get the strength from. Good idea though and one that I had just thought of myself a few days ago. I also thought of running the exhaust inside the floor and then having another panel above that - may make the seats to high and limit head room though. I also thought of running oval tubing instead of round exhaust to keep it tucked up higher. Bit like the serpent headers you can buy for motorbikes.
And as someone else pointed out, a lot of the panels are too flat and don't have any shape or ribs in them, again robbing them of strength.
The amount of structure you have cut out and modified has seriously affect the overall strength and rigidity of the car. I hope the work you have done is suitable (its hard to really say from photos) but I would definitely consider welding in a full cage just to make sure.
But apart from all that the overall idea and execution is inspiring and I can't wait to see it finished.

Guys, thanks a lot for your words and encouragement. Absolutely awesome as ever!! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Really sorry about the slowness in updating, I'm currently having some trouble with the pics but I have a lot of progress to report when I sort that out and some fun modifications that I have been busy doing that you may like ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Bear with me, it's a'comin!! Soggy- As I said in my PM that's an awesome offer! Thanks a lot, it's appreciated muchly and will really help this project along! Niterida- Your ideas sound great!! It's a shame the Torana idea got shot to peices, that would have been seriously cool! But the Impreza will be an absolute animal, I hope you post up the project when it starts because that will get a lot of love here! Thanks for the feedback on the project. Don't worry too much about the chassis members' strength, it's decieving. The chassis on these Escort monocoque shells really have no massive strain to bear. The originals are nothing more than a folded 3-sided stiffener as an addition to the integrity of the pressed steel monocoque shell and so I really didn't need to beef these up very much to take the extra strain. But with the new chassis rails bieng box section instead of a 3 sided pressing and bieng 3mm thick it will be so much stronger than before and I reckon it should be over engineered if anything ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I hear what you're saying about the flat panels and I was a bit worried too at first. But when I went over it there really isn't a panel that has a flat section for very long before bieng met with some box section re-enforcement of some kind to give strength in those areas. Like the rear bulkhead for example bieng supported by the cross brace of box section, and under the rear inner wings with the box section supports too. I appreciate your thoughts though as at this stage it isn't too late to re-do a section and I'm not too stubborn to do it, as this is a real learning curve for me!
