Well, I got a package today, so I ripped in and tried the manky red calipers out for size. They fit a treat but the bolts are about 60mm too long Peugeot don't list them anymore (there's a surprise) so I shot out to pick up some M12 bolts that are 30mm long. They don't have the same tensile strength apparently, but they'll do for now and I'll try and get an original set off of the 205 owners club at a later stage. I've stripped them down of the old red paint and given them a coat of black, so they're drying as I type. I'll get it all fitted up tomorrow all being well! Pete

can you not cut the bolts down?,. Did think about it but they have quite a long shank (unthreaded) and I did try to cut a new one, but the old ones are so shagged that I just opted to go smaller. They are threaded all the way through but I think this will be alright once they're torqued up

Well, after many trials and tribulations the new calipers were fitted and the system bled. A lot And then it went to the garage for another bleeding session as I just ran out of time to sort it myself. Got the car back on Friday, loaded it up and left early on Saturday morning. Where was I going? To the track of course ;D I put a thread on the general board about my track day at Woodbridge with Javelin ( retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=136436&page=1#1649491 ), so I'll just throw up a couple of pics of the car here. It was fantastic fun and the car performed brilliantly. We were the only 205 there, we got overtaken a lot, the locknut for the clutch cable came off which made for fun gearchanging for a bit and the exhaust now has an even bigger blow than it did before. I've decided to keep it until the insurance runs out and fit a couple more trackdays in before it's sold, but it will still be getting sold Needs must and all that!

What a great read. My first car was a turquoise 954cc 205, I had a love/hate relationship with that too. I've always fancied a gti though, I imagine they must be great fun (when they are working properly that is!) Thanks for bringing back some memories of my first car

Great to see that you're having fun! I enjoyed talking to you at RRG.

I've always fancied a gti though, I imagine they must be great fun (when they are working properly that is!) Thanks for bringing back some memories of my first car Glad you enjoyed it mate, it's been emotional as Vinny would say Fun? Oh yes. In spades!! Great to see that you're having fun! I enjoyed talking to you at RRG. BTW Headgasket is definitely gone on my 309... Hey, nice to meet/chat with you too mate, sorry to hear that the HG has gone. What a blow. Hopefully you can get it sorted soon though. So, an update of sorts. Post the track day the clutch needed a bit of adjusting so I had a tinker today, and now it goes in gear again (much easier to drive ) The exhaust also had a massive blow, I thought it was just the crappy connections (where I joined a couple of exhaust parts together) but on closer inspection..... So, I cracked out the spare exhaust tube (bought for a bike carb manifold that hasn't been made yet!!) ditched the silencer and welded in some new tube!! And, as I was convinced that there was something not quite right about my welder (Yes I'm not brilliant at welding, but I was pretty sure there was no gas getting through) I had a play, and I was right. No gas! Now that I know how to make the regulator work (don't ask) my welding seems to have improved by about a 1000% Still needed a fettle with the grinder though!! And fitted! It has a couple of small blows, which will get a smudge of putty when I get some, and it may be louder than the required 105Db for a trackday. I'll have to check with my latest phone app!! Sounds bloody good though!! In other news I'm putting it up for sale. Why? Well, I recently left a high paid job, and as I don't think I'm going to be getting the same sort of money again this car is a luxury that I can't really afford to keep and justify insurance/tax etc. Oh, and there's a certain VW that needs my undivided attention And finally, my lovely wife has given tacit permission to take the Escort on track ;D There'll be a for sale advert coming up in the next couple of days, but looking for about £1200. Reasonable? Thanks for looking in. Pete

I know, tragic or what Still, Morgs is already in love, and I know he'll look after it and it'll get some use. There is a rather large hole in the garage now though.......... Must resist filling it Van will be back soon I hope and that will keep me in check!
