Latest bits on my rx3...not much really but i bought new plates ;D these look loads better than the manky yellow ones! I have been driving the car quite alot actually- we have done two long trips to wales- once to coed y brenin mtbing with bikes on rear rack. 450 mile trip. 28MPG!!! Then to Pembrokshire- another long trip. Over 400 mile again. 29MPG- and this is with some fast cruising on dual carrigeways at 70. Without so much as a blip of a problem More than keeping up with modern traffic. I'm so happy about the way the little car is running. Bear in mind that 28MPG might not be amazing for a modern car but for a oldschool carb fed rotary putting out 120bhp i'm happy with figures like that!!! And it means that its cheap enough to use on more planned trips.... Next thing to do before next drive is blast the undersides with more waxoyl- never enough. the new roadsalt they are putting down here now is even more nasty- stickier to help it on the road (and cars underbits) Then i'm gonna get some Gaz shocks and inserts made up for it alex

I absoulutely love the roads about there- the A44 through when not busy is great- especially the hairpins! and then into wales- fantastic. Sorry if i didnt seem to notice ya- i noremally spot anything old on the road!
Lewis- i hope you enjoy my thread- a bit long.. but I just read that thread on sxowners club about the madminor- 45 pages!!!

We took car on long way back through some cool little roads..and heres a couple of shots- gloomy winter shots.. As soon as it warms just a little i'm gonna start playing with the suspension..

Not a biggie but I have finally got around to revisiting my rx3's underbelly. This time it was for a bit of preventative tlc. I had filled all the inside of all box sections with sh1t loads of Bilt Hamber wax end of summer when it flows nicely. But i still wasnt sleeping- as I use the car in any weather i wanted more protection. So out with a big can of waxoyl and into a bucket of piping hot water. It slowly melted and when satisfied it would spray I attached the supplied pump but it was sh1t! Thats the reason i never used the stuff years back. But it was liquid enough to use in a garden hand sprayer so that's what I climbed under the car with. I covered every where that salt might sit- I always give the car a good complete hose down if its spent the weekend on salty roads but if the hose is frozen I wanted the salt to sit on wax- not painted steel. Messy messy job and bl--dy cold too. I was forever thawing out wax covered hands in bucket- no gloves because I am a real (stupid) garage man with perma-grime (and probably dermatitis affected) hands. Wax in my hair (because real men don't wear silly hats) and I stunk of white spirits or whatever the carrying agent is. But the car is now protected underneth so I'm happy and can sleep again

Lol, good work with the Waxoyl! Before joining this forum I had never heard of Waxoyl, but it seems to be all the go around here. If I find a rusty spot on my car I spray it with an aerosol can of fish oil from a car parts shop, but I suppose that's probably not sufficient over there in Europe where it actually rains!

On saturday I woke up early and got the mtbs ready and all our ridiong gear- then thought id move rx3 out and warm it up etc. but the engine turned over really slowly ! The battery was dead i thought..not a worry- i'll jump start it with the bmw. but still it turned over really slowly! F--k it! and i flooded it in the process. So sunday i dried it all out and tried again with charged battery. still no good  So hannah tow started me- and it started so easy first go. cool.Once warmed up I took it for a right good trashing!!! (as ya do) but even when warm and charged up it turned over slowly- and starter was hot too. Ran local friendly factors and they found a new starter for me - really cheap too as it had been on shelf a long time- apparantly not much call for rx7 starters.... so last night i plonked it in place and jumped in seat thinking I wonder if its a lot better... Whirp whirp brrrmmmmmmm!!! Bl--dy amazing difference- in fact i have never had a rotary turn over so quickly ever! Even my chevettes starter must have been ill! Sooo happy! And top it off - whilst under car it was still nice and clean - nice to work on! So chuffed- i'm gonna ditch the pushbike tommorrow and while roads are free from mums and their big chelsea tractors taking little jonny to school (half term) - i'm gonna drive the 3 into work.

Drove Rx3 to work today first time in ages- giving me cycling legs a rest as i've picked up the training miles. As mentioned earlier I have modifed the nikki carb like i had on the chevette - so now the first bit of choke knob travel sets a fast idle. Much better- pulled into gas station and idling at 1500/2000 has i hadnt put choke in. turned off engine...1, 2, 3 BANG! 8) sweet backfire. that woke everyone on the forecourt up! he he loving it!

i'm loving this little car. Its behaving to well. whoops- thats probably jinxed it.. Took mate out for a spin last weekend. Very rough road. The 2 bushes that i didnt replace when restoring car because i thought they seemed fine- idler arm bushes- decided to crumble. Ops. Lucky mazda still stock them! Easily replaced. Took car to work on friday to give cycling legs a rest-actually i just wanted to drive it. friday night after some shopping i had race with a fella in an rs turbo escort - on private roads of course,.. He was quicker in the top end but i stayed with him up until my little 3 went off the clock -130mph- at 7500 rpm. Crikey! Such fun. I'm chuffed with that. Must sort out new shocks though- handling is dire.
