You know how it is when you promise to yourself not to take on anymore projects but you see something too good to turn down? Well thats how I came across this car for sale on here last week. I have always had a soft spot for VW's with many passing through my hands in the last few years from Beetle's, T3's, T25, MK1, MK2, MK3 Golfs and a few Passat's. After seeing a MK1 Passat coupe for sale on eBay a few years ago I quite fancied owning one. I did make a tentative enquiry to the eBay seller after the auction finished and reserve was not met but never got a reply. Then there was a feature on an orange one in PVW mag which basically said they were probably one of the the rarest VW's in the UK. Only six or so left in the UK but from what I have read it is probably double that but still mega rare! This car really appeals to me as it is like a bigger MK1 Golf but not as common. I am also a big fella so driving a Golf is not very comfortable and I end up looking like Donkey Kong in Mario Kart! Anyway the car, many of you would have seen it in the for sale section last week. It was pulled out of a garage by Phill (galahad) and despite being a car breaker and Vauxhall nut thought it should be saved, hence the ad on here. I was not in a great financial position to buy this car and added to that the logistical problem of collecting it so just watched the thread with interest. After checking my finances an offer was made after seeing that a potential buyer had backed out. It was accepted in the end and with a bit of help from a mate with a flatbed Transit we went to deepest, darkest Radstock to collect it. Thats enough waffle for now, enjoy the pics

Cheers gents! Loving polardegos white one. Probably do the same kind of thing to it as it looks so right. Slam, ats classics - done! polardego - might need to contact you for some suspension info and maybe locating a quad light grill. Also like the front spoiler bits on yours, what are they from? Before all this I need to sort the welding out, get the engine running (def need a carb as this one is rusted), replace all the brakes including pipes and fluid then mot. Will run it around semi rat look (don't worry I aint gonna make it look worse) this year then properly sort the body ready for 2009 show season. Might band the original steels and let in new rear arches a touch wider, so many options. If anyone has a couple of the front wing grill trims (yeah right) knocking about I will buy them from you. Also a pair of front wings and a drivers side door - unlikely! Oh well its a good excuse to go part hunting at some euro shows

Hmmm, I have new wings and also a quad light grill. You can use springs from Audi 80 typ 81/85 in the front. (40mm) and Sierra Cosworth in the rear...

lovely car, if you need parts, polardego and i have found a source in germany, and a lot of things can be purchased secondhand... this is a very rare example (windscreen is different from later ones, don't break it), and the louvres at the c-pillar were only available in 73... you coul also use steel rims from the Mk.I GTI (5,5x13), looks good if you don't want to hassle with banded steels...

Not sure about Cosmics (had a set on my Mini back in the day!) but I am feeling the ATS Classics. Anyway, did a simple chop on some early 911 fuch. Note to self: Get it running before buying shiny bits ;D

No wings or doors. Could check around if you like? My car has newer been driven in the winter and never had winter tires as well. An old lady had it and I'm the Second owner. Only has 80000 miles on it. Planing to paint the front fenders and drop it a couple of inces and put on some GTI II wheels on it for now.
