I'm using a sigma 2l narrow block gearbox, evo engines are harder to mount because they don't have castings for rwd mounts, thats why I used a vr4 engine so I wouldnt have to drill into the block and weaken it.

Hi mate - any chance of a picture of the Sigma you got the gearbox from? Reason I ask is that the Sigma's here in the UK are all 4WD so wouldn't fit the Lancer. Am I right in thinking the VR4 engine is the same as an Evo III engine? Any photos of your gearbox and engine would be great - I've been trying to get this project going for ages and this would be a great help. Cheema.

This shape Sigma: While the Evo III and E39A VR-4 engines are both 4G63s, the VR-4 engine has castings for RWD mounts while the Evo engines don't - also Evo engines have 7 bolt cranks as opposed to 6 bolt of the VR-4, seperate thrust washers from the centre main bearing, smaller bearing journals, thinner rods, higher compression pistons, smaller ports in the head etc. Evo III is 270hp vs 220hp of the VR-4 - but that's mainly due to the larger turbo, larger injectors etc.

Well heres a bit of pictorial update for you guys. when this happened I got a bigger diameter tube dshaft made up and tested it by doin this at a oldschool party it held up great so then I went to the oldschool trackday and noticed my handling was pitiful But I had an extremely short exhaust for the day so I was pleased when photos like this were taken Also my buddy kelvin made me a nice new turbo manifold Now the lancer is on the backburner for a while while I concentrate on the commer project which hopefully is getting primed tomoro! Click this link for more pics of our oldschool trackday s15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/racheal77/carprogress/?start=0

thats my lightweight crankcase breather system ;D I got some big pipes welded to the rocker cover to reduce blowby when its on high boost and I havent got around to mounting a proper catchcan........... as you can see I am lacking room in the bay somewhat.

Heres a copy pasted update for you guys After an early 08 trackday at taupo I could hear a rattle in my engine so after a year of it sitting around taking up space I finally had some money and motivation and stripped the engine down to inspect it and found several bearings had run. Combine that with the fact it handled like a sack of curse word I decided to totally rework the whole car. I'm basically changing every aspect of the car to make it faster more reliable and a whole lot tougher. Engine is partly completed just waiting on the final assembly at the shop, specs are 272 cams 3 angle valve cut forged and stroked to 2.3l bottom end and all balanced up. Also going to run a garrett 35/40 of some description, hopefully will get around 400kwatw. Any suggestions from some of the experts here to acheive this will be gratefully recieved. I have a nitrous kit to install if needed too but not sure whether I will or not. Putting a lsd diff out of a L200 in the rear axles are much beefier than the turbo sigma diff it had in it it, also in the process of making it coilover rear end seperate shock and spring. up front are some starion struts and brakes which have had the coilover treatment. Complete engine bay rewire with the focus being on keeping it as tidy as I can, some custom alloy bits including inlet plenum cold air box and intercooler piping, I'm also moved the fuel pumps and surge tank to the boot and will be getting an electronic boost controller. My mate who welded up the turrets kindly painted them a nice shade of pink Garrett GT3582 with T04Z Comp wheel, and 1200 cc injectors, thats a ciggie case beside turbo which holds 20, just to give you indication of size Also got my J D M yo timing cover plates from the land of the rising sun har har Woot got my motor finally, also got some 15 inch steels to widen for it and a new personalised plate which you can see in bottom of photo NANNER ;D Have also recently purchased a GReedy electronic boost controller
