I'd hate to point any fingers, Its a Mk2 Cortina, whats so super special about one of them? I mean for an enthusiast to steal its so wrong even if they do want a straight shell, it'll need painting too - somewhere dodgy. bit too much effort to export IMO. So i just don't get it. Someone will likely be offerd this car within the year.

Really sad how often this kinda post comes up now, will keep em peeled and hope he gets it back I'm not sure what the stats are (nobody really does i think!), maybe theres more going, or maybe we have a solid network now, and any car that goes missing (specially if its a mag editors ) becomes too hot to handle! nearly as hot as today!

anyone posted this on buysellcortina or Kenet?
my guesses are its going to be joy riders or broken for panels.
Mk2s are starting to fetch good money now and good paenls are hard to find.
Did I get it wrong but I think the banger boys don't much like cars with strut suspension.

Hope its found.Mk 2 Cortinas were one of my favoured cars for road use and I even had a few on the banger track and did well with them. My favoured version was the 1500 GT. Brilliant for spirited driving on country roads..and it always got me home, despite the clutch pipe melting through on one occasion (just crashed the gears with no clutch). Oh there was one occasion it didnt get me home...when it got nicked... luckily I spotted it dumped a week later with paint poured on it and a few things stolen from the boot. On track they were not favoured by many but I liked them. Raced a few GT versions..1500 and 1600. Rot was the biggest weakness... one example I raced had rotted by the steering box mounts...so the box moved when you turned the steering wheel...had to wedge wood in it as a bodge to race. I fear the high price of scrap has led to an increase of of cars being stolen for scrap...Fairly sure my Maestro went that way as a scrap man asked about it 2 weeks before it got stolen.

Where are the banger boys, are we going to see them ride to the aid of our friend in distress? <sits down and waits> BB You'll be waiting a long time - cortina mk2's are appalling bangers for modern racing - I'd go so far as to say unsafe at anything more than a 1300 meeting. They were raced years ago when there was less heavy wrecking (as Reg has just posted) but these days you would be asking for it a bit by racing one against bluebirds etc... Very few get raced these days - same for mk1's and anglias, and it is driver preference rather than rarity that determines this. It's mk3/4/5 tinas that are sought after for bangers... It sucks that it has been stolen, but I'd be looking elsewhere!

Fair comment about about people weighing abandoned cars in, but this one sounds too spangly TBH, although I know loads were picked up off the street without asking last year when scrap price rose. Interesting to hear these are unsafe on the track.
