I have mates thst race Bangers that are from Oldham i'll pass the message on so that if they are offered it not to race it. Good work,.. As said above it probably isn't banger material, but someone may have stolen it with the thought to pass it on for some quick cash. Hopefully it doesn't end up getting weighed in.

anyone posted this on buysellcortina or Kenet? my guesses are its going to be joy riders or broken for panels. Mk2s are starting to fetch good money now and good paenls are hard to find. Did I get it wrong but I think the banger boys don't much like cars with strut suspension. yes posted on BSC and Cortina.net (used by Kenet members while Kenet is down) this Cortina is only one of several stolen this week

We're not, don't think we are anyways. We're keen to have the racers know about it though, so if they are offered it, they can be suspicious. and alert the right people, me - the owner - police(for what its worth)! I suspect thats why the administrator here has neatly mate a new section for stolen classics, so less regular members can see what has been stolen or not recently.

I really had to think twice about posting that because i'm sick of this whole banger debate.
Its not about banger racers, its about car thieves. You get scum in all walks of life. I know for a fact that theres a scum element in the classic/modified scene. I hear stories all the time of people getting ripped of by garages, buying overpriced/stolen parts, buying restored cars that turn out to be death traps. If your into banger racing and you've got magnetic fingers what better way to fulfill your needs than to go nick a car and destroy it on a track? Its not the fault of the banger comunity, just like its not the fault of the classic comunity that people are selling vin plates on ebay.
I know that its been said on here that if a stolen car is being raced then other drivers should put there cars back on there trucks and go home, but what if the tables were turned, what if we all turned up for CARS next year and someone tells us that that one guy is there in a stolen car or someones turned up in a ringer? Would we all pack up and go home and cancel our show till next year? I don't think we would. Maybe the morall minority might but the show would still go on. I think that what we need to accept is that this scum element exists in all walks of life, always has and always will, and we need to work together together to stamp it out but without alienating other elements of our scene which revolves around old cars, wether classic, modified or bangered.
I don't really know what to say to sum up really so i think i'll just leave it at that. But lets not start ganging up on banger racers just because another sad tale has come to a rather predictable end. Like i said, its not banger racers who steal cars, its thieves, and if banger racing was banned these people would still be nicking cars, only then they'd be joy riding them round the streets and setting fire to them in parks or cutting them up and flogging them on ebay.

soz Rev Dicky D, but look at the situation, we've got 4 cars in the 'nicked car' forum and 3 of them have now ended up bound for the oval, the one that didnt is a fuggin Hilllman Imp. I agree that probably none of these cars were actually nicked by banger racers (except perhaps this cortina), but that is a pretty poor fuggin statistic by anyone's measure.

The Rev has made some valid points. Yes there is a "scum element" in many of the different facets of the car scene, nobody would argue otherwise. The problem here is that the Banger scene is a fairly tight knit community. Each region, every local track has "known" racers and, it would be fair to say, people know people. Are we to assume that the cars we know were stolen to be raced were raced by people just turning up at the track? Of course not! The people who raced these cars were well known on the scene and having them hold their hands up and declare " i didnt know it was nicked guv" doesnt really cut it does it. How many of the stolen cars that were raced were complete curse word heaps? None. Come on now, yes not all Banger racers are thieves but, for Christ sakes, lets get real here eh? I remember that there was a spate of cars going missing back in the late 80s/90s, granted some were found, some were ringed and some donated parts but some were also stripped and Bangered. FACT. There IS a problem of classic tin being stolen to be raced on the oval. FACT. The Banger community is fully aware that it is going on but cannot or will not do anything about it. There have been plenty of suggestions and not one has been a definitive solution. I think Mr B summed it up better than i ever could, statistics don't lie.

need to find out the race number of these Mk2 thieves, and publically shame them
what am I saying - they obviously have no shame.
on the banger racing / theives theme: it really is upto the majority of law abiding banger racers, and the racing authorities to weedle out the thieves and BAN them from ever racing the oval again. ASBO them from the racing scene

A guy I know tells me his local track already does require VIN plates in place and a V5 for racing. its policed in a somewhat "patchy" fashion, but its a start. Not rocket science and they've been doing it quite a while apparently.
I think its best if we try not get into too many debates about the rights and wrongs of things in threads about individual cars. I think we need to start (and sticky?) a topic about how we and the banger community can work together to our mutual benefit and address the issue of stolen-to-race cars.
