Wilko, that's an interesting post of yours back on the last page. Thankyou, I for one never realised just how fragmented the sport is. However, maybe the time is right for there to be some kind of overall governing of tracks and events, I appreciate that this is logistically difficult and am aware of the implications, but if you're all sick of being tarred with the same "traveller criminal car thief" brush, how else are you going to resolve it? These independent tracks with no affiliation anywhere to any kind of governing body, why can't they be persuaded to, or some kind of incentive set up to make "legit" racers take their custom elsewhere (ie to "legit" tracks). Being tarred with a brush by a minority of people is not sufficiently motivational to change the entire structure of a national sport that has spent 40 years not always getting along too well with each other. It ain't me you have to convince (and I am not convinced) its the thousands of other people racing cars, the dozens of rival promotions etc... There's nothing "not legit" about the independent tracks - they just prefer to organise themselves that way and run to their own rules. One of the tracks I have raced at a few times and where I regularly attend and report on race events is a family run "independent" and no amount of persuading would stop me going there I'm afraid. You have to accept that those of us who have done nothing wrong (like me) refuse to feel guilty about those who have. I have posted extensively on why I do not think a "car checking" system would work unless it was enforced by law - I could go on at length about this, but the fact is that nobody has proposed a workable solution given the points I have already raised anyway... I still believe it is the job of the Police and the courts to deal with criminals. HOWEVER - a decent dialogue on the internet between car owners and banger lads is helpful and constructive - it sounds like some information about the stolen PC mk1 has already been forthcoming from the banger community, which would endorse that view. If "we" can help "you" trace stolen cars, then the Police and courts can get involved and sort out the culprits in the proper manner. Going around "tarring banger drivers with the thieving scum brush" because of something we as individuals are powerless to change (the fact that the sport is incapable of taking unilateral action to prevent stolen cars being raced) will NOT help build a productive dialogue or achieve anything - your call fellas...

You have to accept that those of us who have done nothing wrong (like me) refuse to feel guilty about those who have. But that shouldn't stop you helping to erradicate it - no? I still believe it is the job of the Police and the courts to deal with criminals. They sometimes need help well spoon feeding IMHO!!! Agreed so don't disappear - so dialogue between the two groups can continue please - in any group you get extreemes of views and while I don't agree with all of the views posted while we still have free speech I accept the rights of people to say what they think I do get upset when it goes outside the bounds of reasonable language and behaviour towards another person but thats just me As far as I am concerned all people who share the same belief that theft is theft and should not be condoned/ignored should be welcome here.

At the end of the day the only people who can do anything about the situation is not the drivers but the governing body the Oval Racing council ( O.R.C.) a nationally organised committee governing several formulas, at the end of the day what they say goes, they don`t govern all promotions but the main ones are under their control and if you get the ban at one place you can`t race anywhere where an O.R.C. licence is reqd. There's loads of tracks not running under the ORC - Horndean, Grimley, Smallfield, Henham, Standlake, Warton, Barrow, Brampton, Layhams, Westworld, Fleet, Coventry etc... They account for a fair chunk of the cars being raced - Standlake is probably the best hard surface track in the land these days - averages 70 cars a meeting for 24 dates a year and hosts the biggest banger meeting of the season in terms of the number of cars raced (The Heavy Metal Classic - over 200 bangers have raced at this one meeting for nearly a decade, and it's topped 250 for the last few years)

at the end of the day the police had the stolen datsun in front of them, the theif was there but they chose not to do anything so theres no chance of finding the granny straight .the only way stolen cars wont be raced is when the police pull their fingers out & do what we pay them to do!

i have never read so much curse word in my life, adults (some times i wonder!) bickering like children.... 10000's of cars get stolen a week curse word happens ! maybe if some of you took the time to speak to a banger driver you would find that most of them have a nice road motor, something that they have found to be too good for the track, they just don't advertise their cars in shows or put them in glossy mags for people to dribble over

So fundamentally we agree on this
