from Granada & Scorpio online forum 10-02-2007:
On Wednesday this week, between lunchtime and 5pm a thief came to my house and stole my two Granadas.
One was a silver mk3 scorpio E592CHK 2.9i auto The other, a met green 2.0i ghia E633DTF manual
They were taken on wednesday 6th feb between 13:00 and 17;00 from the Downham Market area of Norfolk along with some tools and an Austin Maestro and some lotus alloy wheels.
The thief was driving a silver Mitsubishi trooper and also has a red transit van, and towed them off on the end of a tow rope, so probably haven't gone far (we have CCTV pics).
So any if you have any information, please contact me (0777 199 7807) pr the police (0845 456 4567)
Thanks MarkB

Wonder why they were taken, not just idle curiosity, anyone who has one of these might benefit from knowing so they have an idea of the types of people who might betargetting their motor.
Weigh in? Engines? dare I say it, bangering?

I'd guess at them having been robbed by traveller b@stards simply for weighing in. The giveaway is 'Silver Mitsubishi Trooper', no doubt a grey import job - this is the vehicle of choice for the discerning 'no fixed abode' traveller scrap dealer.

Deffo been scrapped, or about to be scrapped. Its at £120 a ton in some areas so theres about £350 quid there. Not bad for a couple of hours work and worth running the risk of getting collared. Great for topping up the dole money too. Scoundrels.

Wasnt presuming anything dieselpower, just going through the options, I know very little about banger racing or what people use or how often cars get stolen for bangering, but I`ve heard it does happen.
I did think the most likely would be weighing in but as you say thers no point assuming anything - people pinch stuff for all sorts of weird reasons these days and the more of them we know about the better.

None of those cars would be taken to race, i they were mk2 grannes then would have said yes, but not mk3s!

So why don't the banger boys use Mk3s then? Not strong enough?

they do if they r desperate, but they are rubbish for racing, there is nothing to the front end and they fold easily, also the legs fall apart and then after a half decent hit they are knackered. i know a fair amount about racing, as i race myself. 99% of racers by there cars by the book. and get easily offended when they are tarred with a brush! no offence taken vicsmith mate!

These mk3 grannes are closely related to sierras in design and construction and both have been described as "death traps" by racers. The chassis front and rear blend into the floorpan meaning that the cars strength depends totally on the sills. Ive seen them get pushed into the wall or another car hard and the front and rear ends stay straight with the centre section totally collapsing in on itself...... frightning.

Thinking of relocating next to a timberyard!
So if a Mk3 Granada was shunted from the back into another car on a public road - maybe one of those nightmare scenarios where all the traffic grinds to a halt on the motorway only some of it doesnt - and the said Granada had rotten sills then then the front and rear ends could make a Tina Turner concert (Concertina!) out of the passenger cell, mangling everybody inside up good and proper? I mean without the crash helmet and roll cage that the one you saw had it would be even worse! That is a bit of a nasty prospect!

only when they are mega rotten tho... resto f the time the front chassis rails fold up and they die like that instead

They fold up into the passenger compartment if they have been punted into a post on a track with a cable style fence, but I guess you don't get the same thing on the roads!
