from another forum...
I have had 6 of my classic lifted by crooks. They went to one of my storage units masquerading as bailiffs with false papers, told the proprietors they had the permission of the police and showed false papers, then rang me the next day demanding 13K CASH for their return. Despite a court injunction demanding instant return of all of them pending civil action they say they are to sold. How the hell they can sell vehicle with no or false papers in beyond me, HPI & DVLA have been alerted, as have the police who are moving at their usual snail's pace.
If anyone sees for sale: unique grey/green Morris 1800 Landcrab, 16K from new (9K on clock) reg letters FDR unique red 1971 Opel Commodore A GS Coupe reg letters PFY 1983 Ford Capri Cabaret in blue/silver 41K reg ACW white 1979 Ford Escort mk2 4-door 17K from new reg ERH gold 1979 Ford Escort mk2 Ghia 44K reg ERH gold 1978 Ford Escort mk2 Ghia 8K from new only reg AND 24T let me know immediately the location or inform the local police and contact me 07932 1567563
Any sale of these of these vehicle is illegal and will prove void as I have all the documents and any change of ownership will be cancelled. The crooks operate in the Richmond area of North Yorkshire though I suppose they could end up anywhere

What a very unusual scenario!
Why do I think there is more to it than that? I mean if someone pitched up at Frank's place purporting to be a baliff, wanting to sieze my stuff in storage there, I reckon he'd be on the blowa to me PDQ.

which forum?
if this is true - (and not concerned with a dispute over money) - i would say its 'caravan dwelling tarmac layers' - who else would have the balls?

Yeah, why would they phone up the owner a day later and ask for money for the return of the cars - i've never come across 'carnapping' before. Truly bizarre.

It was posted on HERE by one of the regulars, but something doesn't add up and the consensus seems to be that the owner of the storage unit may or may not have something to do with the visit. I.E. that the bailiffs were real enough, but that the owner of the cars was simply a victim of another party and their debt. Sure enough, to ask for money for the cars, thse types would have to have offered a means of contact, the owner gave this and other details to the Police, who said they couldn't do anything. Why not? The only thing that makes sense is that the bailiffs had paperwork. This doesn't help the poor guy who lost his cars, especially as he may have to fight the actual debtor through the courts for compensation. But theft? No, or the Police would have acted given the scale of the thing.

:-[Thanks for that! We've since heard that the guy has had some cars returned, but I've been instructed by legal bods working for a firm of bailiffs to avoid carrying any further comment about the case as it is ongoing in the civil courts. Seems like our guy was indeed the victim in all of this though, will update once the definitive story may be published.

Lets just hope the cars are stored properly and returned in the same condition as they were taken.
