the car in question has had 2 owners from new the last for 19 years it was taken for its mot this morning after a 2 year rest in the garage sailed the mot with no props and no advisories milage is 75k just wanted opoins on the model also what is the stud pattern it still has the original steels and trims

pcd will be 4 x 100.

if it is the one the one on eBay then with 90bhp and an autobox, I reckon you will get overtaken by a tortoise, but I like the Audioline Stereo.

Looks tidy for its age, they were built in Germany so are well put toghether. Front Wings rust, electic window switches play up but my old man had a 2.2CDi many moons ago and it was reliable enough

yep thats the one had it for a drive drove fine fast enough for me did touch 90 then backed of front wings apear solid as does the whole car some stone chips on the bonnet and a couple of scabs very small on the o/s/r door paint looks to be original to be honest drove a lot better than i though it would no rattles smooth gear changes i had tried to buy the car before about a month or so ago but the seller wasn't sure what his relative was doing with the car

PCD isnt 4x100! Cavalier wheels don't fit, they're a slightly different stud pattern. No idea what it is though.

based my 4 x 100 on the wheels mrstigma had on his carlton, that were sold and put on a 90s astra.
did the early and late models have different pcd's?

Astras are 4x100... humm. Atleast some cartlon 4 stud hubs don't fit cavalier and astra rims... Ive seen it!

Both the Mk1 & Mk2 Carltons ARE 4x100mm PCD. The Mk3 uses a different 5-stud pattern same as late Senators etc.

Rot? Rear arches for starters as these are usually the worse. Open both back doors and look at the arches, as well as close inspection underneath of them. Then move on to the entire underneath of the car plus all inner wings, sills etc.
I believe the Frontera Sport had the same engine, others reckon it's the Cav engine in the Frontera. 2.3 diesels are bloody reliable but slow and old fashioned.
Good points? Big, solid cars that are decent enough to drive. Good on fuel for size of car, relaxed driving and comfortable. Parts are probably getting harder to find now though.

They really are great cars. If you have a good one it will handle surprisingly well and the ride quality can be almost Rolls-Royce!

The 1.8 engine was the OHC and was basically that used in FWD Cavalier/Astra/Calibra 1.8/2.0
The 2.0 & 2.2 was the old CIH engine basically as in RWD Manta/Cavalier/CF2/Rekord 1.6/1.9/2.0
The 2.4 Frontera uses a bored/stroked CIH engine as above. Other petrol Fronteras used the OHC as above.

checked all the usual carlton/senator rot spots all are solid it is 1.8 cav/astra engine consumpstion seems quite good for a big old beast with a fairly small engine need to find a set of alloys with a bit of a dish and set of lowering springs

For some reason I thought they were 5 stud wheels, maybe that was just the GSi model? It's possible Migweb, VXON or Autobahnstomers would throw up some wheels or springs?

Martin are you sure the pcd is 4x100 (yes please) just that i am getting different fittment don't mean to doubt you i have been told they are 4x101 and 4x4.5 seen some nice borbet a 4x100 in good nick

Could you put a VM or Isuzu diesel from a Frontera into a Carlton fairly easily?

You're probably mixed up the Mk2 with the Mk3 (most people do!). Mk3 are all 5-stud not just GSi. Mk1&2 are all 4x100mm PCD.
