I went along to a beginners detailing day today with another RR'r who I will leave it up to him to admit to being there or not as he wishes....... Who was that then? Cheers for taking me along Ian - really didn't think this was my thing, but I learnt loads! It is a section of the car world that I never come across before. Words such as 'sponge', 'chammy' and 'T-cut' are utter blasphomy to these guys! There was an almost uncanny resemblance between the owner of Dodo and our very own Hotwire, not least in looks but certainly in voice and mannerisms! Re the golf - I'm hoping that the other RR'r who went got some pics of her car - cos I stupidly didn't No! I thought of that as we drove home - although someone has indeed posted a shot of it with a previous owner. I actually quite like the fact that car cleaning has become a sport! Yeah, and a very expensive one if you take it seriously! Over £1800 for one pot of wax on demonstration! but I did enjoy claying and waxing the Golf not long ago. There you go - I'd never even heard about claying until Saturday... Sounds like 'hologramming' to me ...And never heard of much of the terminology. Dan's done this before! Cracking day out. Not sure how much I'll put into practice, but it was great to see how the professionals work. Once again, thankyou BC for taking me along. I can recommend this course / demonstration day to anyone who wants to shine!

I do love a nice clean car, however i've just got a cheapo electric polisher and basic shampoo and bumper/tyre dressing stuff, works well though: From this: To this:

Which, according to Rmad at least, must mean he is like you as well... we are the borg... the geeky geeky borg! You have the cooler car though... I want a shiny car... but I gots no where to wash it,.. Si's workshop is on a farm so it'd be all shiny until I moved it and then the dust/mud would ruin all my work. I can't get a hose to my car from my house, or an electrical cable for orbital polisher thing. Bum.

if you order a porter cable from tools plus in the states $99 plus shipping you can use a standard 110v transformer to run it works a treat oh and you will not find much stronger than traffic film remover for removing built up traffic film grease dead flies etc and as such will almost certainly remove your wax, acrylic sealer a little test finish your car and let a little tfr go in the breeze so it falls on your car it will leave unwaxed spots on your car if you dilute it too much it will not be any stronger than most wash products or an all purpose cleaner like megs APC or g101 leave them for the arches or if you want a real good strip clean before detailing. I am only trying help here it is one of the stronger washes on the market and has its place that just doesn't happen to be on a detailed and waxed car body is all I've never had that problem with the tfr I use and all my cars are either waxed with Dodo Juice or Swissvax. Could be that your dilution ratio is a bit to strong??? The tfr does mark the black rubber trim if it's got a coating of trim gel though. The best place for guides is if you go onto Detailing World and look up user guides by Dave_KG. Bit of a god over there! Ya see rat look and Hood ride are soooo last year! Have a butchers at this thread. www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=26667Bit of a Retro Ride ya see being a 1978 Audi 80!! I got it off eBay last year, and then set about putting some life back into the old girl! Most people would have written off the paint and long time ago, but with a little time and patience (and some good polishes) you can get a superb finish.

ok then a 5 liter bottle of snow foam costs you around 15 quid plus postage if you have a costco card there is a 25 litre container in there for 13 plus vat of a concentrated turtle wax 3 in one will give you foam like this when put through a proper pressure washer foam gun 5 times as much for the same price and it leaves a coat of cheap wax at the end only really any good as a stop gap or a top up in between the good stuff however it does a good job with a 2 bucket method. a real good wax for you would be collinite 476s real long lasting and try collectors for grey cars as it looks so wet the 1800 quid stuff is good but i bet most couldnt tell the difference between collectors on a car and destiny or vintage or royale however they refill your tub up for free when you use it all lol holograms are caused by using too harsh a polish without working it well enough so it leaves micro scratches in the paint which look just like smears (but they don't wipe away) normally seen on the sides of dark cars after a machine polish at a body repair shop in the right sunshine will add a piccy in a bit of some good hologramming

Maybe you want to have a footballer smoking a fag squirt goo onto your motor and stand back. Not for me, tho. Only two ways to properly wash: Agitate: Then rinse:

Hmm, I'm going to have to find somebody to sort the paint on my burgundy Merc which is suffering with horrible 'hologramming' (I didn't know there was a name for it!) due to being washed rather a lot in the last 213,000 miles (185,000 in the last 2 years!). I have a problem with doing it myself as the nearest I can get my car to the house is over 100m away so hosepipes and electrical leads are out of the question without seriously upsetting neighbours! Anyone know of someone in the MK/north Bucks area that could help?

I'd say that's worthy of an OOF! Interesting thread, never managed to get foam like that out of my pressure washer, so I just use it for the rinsing process now, and go the old skool sponge way. I love the idea of having a grid in the bottom of the bucket to stop picking up grit.. might have to make my own!
