I do like these - never understood why they were not more popular....... Must read up on 'em a bit more Nice work so far - the drop does help. How easy was it to do? On hydragas yes?

It was easy to drop, two plates in the boot, two screws, one valve, one screwdriver, PISSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHPT! Its nicer to drive, untill theres any sort of bump or hole in the road. To do it properly id need to take the hydrolastic units out, shorten the tube that the ball joint sits in, and hope and prey ive taken the right amount off before i put the car back together, repeat until funny.......
It'll do as it is, i cant be bothered to do it properly. I might put some bigger foam/rubber blocks where the bumpstops sit, its harsh because theres not much pressure in the system so the top arms bottom out on the bumpstop quite easily. Any decent size pothole could damage the subframe so ive got to be carefull. It certainly aint going back up!

My Uncle popped round just now Does your Uncle's car live in the Reigate area? I think I've seen it, Mead Vale way?

Yeah, he lives in woodhatch, I'm in southpark so its probably the largest concentration of maxis in the country along with my dads lol.
Ive just had an idea.......... (goes away to check stock of random old car accesories and prepares for tomorrow....)

OK - local stuff: Do you remember that Allegro that lived at The Angel? I remember one sad day seeing it; some sod had kicked in every door and panel. I never saw it after that Have you ever spotted my Corona or an olive green Datsun 100a around? How about a turquoise 120Y Coupé that goes through Reigate most weekday mornings to Dorking?

I remember a princess wedge parked up at the angel a while ago too, as well as a white granada with blacked out windows. Ive seen your olive green 100a around, very cool car.

aahhhh - I thought you'd mastered the strip n trimming of the pushrods so were super quick at it. I'll be shortening the rods in the 1100 suspension when I get it back here in the next 2-3weeks. Trial n error it is then! Looking good anyway fella - keep an eye out for the subframe benders!

Trial n error it is then! Looking good anyway fella - keep an eye out for the subframe benders! Cheers, subframe benders have already been tested a number of times, its only a matter of time before it meets its match! There might be info through the 1100 owners club on how too lower them properly as theyve been used in motorsports in the past and do have a bit more of a following so someone may have worked out how much too take off, no such info for the maxi as far as i know and i expect all hydrolastic/hydrogas cars will be different. Took the maxi out for a drive this evening and managed to get some better pics of it....... then realised the passenger side sunvisor had been left down in all of them. Oh well, any excuse to take more...... ;D Looks slightly higher in this pic for some reason. Me getting in it seems to sort that out though

When i bought the maxi the previous owner asked me if i could take a nice picture of it for her as a memory of the times she had with it. She was very tearful when i drove away so i felt obliged to get a picture for her. The picture was printed off today so i took it up to her once id finnished work. I got to her place, chatted for abit about the car, and left. When i got back to the car the wheels looked a little pi$$ed, knowing somethingwas wrong i thought id return home instead of carrying on to my mates house. I drove to the end of her road and headed back to the A217. The car was all over the place and as i pulled up to a set of lights #BANG# and the car slid all over the road. The bush where the bottom arm mounts on the front drivers side and sheered off the subframe, its also twisted the mount where the rear bush mounts to the floor. The Maxi has been written off. For the first time I'm actualy a little upset about the whole thing, not just the fact that my pride and joy is now scrap, but the history that goes with the car and the feeling that i was kind of doing this partly for the previous owner. Ive had a quick look underneath and it appears that the subframe has had repair after repair in that area, so i hate to think what its like elsewhere. I'm just glad i wasnt doing 70 on the motorway when it happened, otherwise i might not be writing this. Oh well, what do i get now? And with what? I'm skinted!

Sad news - especially as you'd gone back to see the previous owner! Perhaps it didn't want to leave...

Sad news - especially as you'd gone back to see the previous owner! Perhaps it didn't want to leave... Ive got to say the thought had crossed my mind lol it happened less than half a mile from her house! Right outside a chinese, a fish and chip shop and a indian (we were well catered for ;D) There were no problems with the car and I hadnt hit a bump in the road, it just let go, but its not suprising realy when you consider how much rot there was The passenger side is fine though, and when I checked the post on the drivers side when I bought it it looked fine, it had a patch welded on one side of it and it looked like a good job. The job is do-able, but the rest of the car is a bit rusty in all the wrong places. It needed taking off the road and having alot of money spent on it. Instead ive stripped al the good bits off it (theres alot of it!) and I'm going to weigh it in. I might get another maxi and use the dash and other bits in it, or get somethig abit more 'normal' and sell the bits. The sunroof is still in it and not realy worth taking out because its rotton too, it needs reframing but the vinyl is ok appart from one small rip about 3mm long and easily repairable. Anyone interested? Its been a real shame this has happened, it was great to drive and as it was looked damn cool imo, I don't think id have done much more too it. Because I cant move it I'm having too strip it where it is at the side of the road. The amount of people stopping to talk and wanting too look is beyond silly now. Ive managed to get it sitting on 4 wheels now, but its still looks daft and now that its got no chrome and manky greasy standard wheels and much of the interior missing it looks................. wibblepoo
