As a glutton for punishment, I've gone and bought myself another mk1 golf - another two door driver without the sunroof.     Solid, never been welded etc etc. Plans are ( within the next two days ) coilovers, stereo, new front spoiler, centre console dials, wolfsburg steering wheel, single headlamp front end full service ( sadly it has the FOUL GF code 1.3 with THAT stupid cylinder head and low compression ). Long term - who knows, still waiting for the insurance pay out on my other mk1, but this'll do till then .  |

Just been looking more closely underneath, and it is totally solid, fuel lines are a bit of a mess, and the engine bay electrics aren't up to a standard I would be happy with ( an hours work should see it right though ) Haven't done anything concrete on it today, been getting the mk2 ready so I can sell it.  |

Mk1 Scirocco wheel I think. One sold for £300 odd on Ebay the other day :-0 They usually go for over £50.
I do like them, but the 4 button one has a certain charm too.

You also got them on early mk1 gtis and occasionally on the W reg drivers - but I can't even remember the last time I saw one of those ! Putting these dials in today ! Subject to the mk2 not giving me any more headaches...  Also found this pic of my gold mk1 looking suitably out of place at the works car park.   |

Leapt out of bed this morning ( its my birthday, so please be nice ) Sorted out a couple of things I've always found unacceptable with this particular mk1... New filler cap  " The " steering wheel. Ripped the old stereo out too - chocolate teapots spring to mind instantly with this. Whoever wired it in should have gone to specsavers - scotch locks on cigarette lighter wiring!?!?!  Front spoiler - I've gone for the original driver type as opposed to the Gti " batwing " for reasons that will be apparent later..  - please note also, the presence in the drivers seat of the unhelpful helper with its freshly installed " silencer "  |

Looking good! This reminds me of my old one: Neglected it before I knew better, but what a car:  I presume what with the big spoiler disappearing, the mandatory slam's about to happen? |

V. little update from me ! It now has my 14" steelies on it that came from my mates mk2, which he gave to another mate with a mk2, who gave them to me, I stuck them on my gold mk1 for a bit, then they lived on my white mk2 for a few months, now the green mk1 has them........yawn. Anyway, went to Bug Jam at the weekend, managed ONE photo before my camera battery died.... and here it is..  checking our tyre pressure before hitting the 50mph speed limit on the M1.... went up the 1/4 a couple of times.......has anyone got a 1.6 16v mk3 polo engine knocking about ? |

Ok....just been going through some old paperwork I've found. This car cost £5400 delivered in 1983 !!!! Pricey for the time  no idea. Anyway, he/she traded in a Fiat 85 super - reg MRL 633X for it... Good lord, no updates for quite some time...... Only bad news to report sadly  Pretty much every area of the brakes are TOAST, have started making amends on this by purchasing some mk2 gti front calipers, going to go the full gti braking set up, as the original can get a bit scary ( terrifying if not in full health ) Got the nine spokes back on - have discovered that pirellis grip a great deal better than budget stuff.....  |

Bit curse word about the brakes, hope you get them sorted out quickly! Any improvement over the standard setup has got to be good!
