Where do you find the code? Are ABK lumps 2 litre? Theres a low mileage 80 in the local scrappers with an identical dizzy to mine. I remember when it came in and I was sure it was only an 1800, hence the same dizzy. Youve made me doubt myself now. The code's on a machined flat at roughly number 3.5 cylinder. You might need to scrape off a layer of surface rust and smear some grime over it to make the number visible. And yes, an ABK's a 2 litre. I think a 2E dizzy from a Passat or very early mk3 GTI will work, too.

ps - he says that the 1.8's are single point, and the 2 litres are multi (this makes very little sense to me, which is why I keep off the modern / vag stuff lol!!)

Filmmidget, thats the problem, down to a tee! If your available and fancy a burger...
Kev, you saving the datto or what??? Thanks for the offer of help. If you could make it down, the more the merrier. The way things are going there wont be any need for an engine crane, wel just lift the lump in and out by hand!
Single point injection is often confused with a carb as it looks very similar, theres one injector in the midde of the inlet manifold, in the middle of the "carb" that feeds all four cylinders. Multi point injection engines have an injector for each cylinder and looks very different. In my case ill have to block off the injector holes in the head to allow me to fit a carb. I'm told pennies fit perfectly, although I may go down a more permament route!
I'm committed to buying this 2 litre engine, its a good lump, its only in Stockport and it can be adapted to fit no worries. Theres alot of confusion surrounding what fits what and tracking some of the parts down will be a pain as theres not many of them about anymore, even in breakers! I think ill just stick with what ive got buy the fitting kit to avoid any problems making a spacer. The oil pump problem looks easily done if your not very careful connecting up the drive linkage, and of course you wont kn ow theres a problem until the engine starts knocking! (apart from the warning light, but meh!)
