Its got dash all to do with 'getting it' its just a practical problem that just isnt worth coming up with a complex and time consuming solution to. Theres just no point to having them open! the seats do tip forward a bit and quite frankly if you think having to get in the front door of my car is too much hassle you can walk! You (and the rest) obviously don't 'get it' whoa whoa whoa !!!!!!! (that's English for stop a horse...) I LOVE it - and I do 'get it' - I have plans for a J-style Marina Coupe at some point (They do Konig Rewinds in Marina fitment ) make a nice alternative to Minilites IMO... For ME (and that's the only opinion I have - mine) it wouldn't be practical - I have a small child and another on the way. I wasn't commenting on your car necessarily, just the inconvenience for ME! I drove a 2 seater 3.5 ltr pickup with a 50mm sump clearance as my daily - I'm not a Mondeo driver FFS ! Sorry if I offended - reading back it does sound like I was having a pop - far from it I can assure you. I should have also added how pleased I was you took the time/effort to create the thread. Cheers... Merry Christmas Rob

who cares if anyone would get it ? is that why you fiddle with cars then ? to make everyone else happy ? See above answer... for ME and I'm sure other parents - there needs to be a compromise sometimes unfortunately... I'm not planning on spending 15 minutes trying to wrestle a toddler into a back seat with limited access ...and I'm pretty sure at 7am I won't be too fussed about doing it while shouting "CHECK MY BOZO STYLEE!" ;D if I could get those arches on a Coupe without effecting it's usability then that would be just peachy... I 'get it' (I think)....
It's like lowering a car so much you can no longer drive over a catseye if your passenger weighs more than 4 stone. It's like putting on 13x8 wheels so your turning circle is similar to a supertanker's. It's like fitting perspex fixed windows so in the summer, you bake. It's like ditching your heater blower so the engine bay can take a V8. It's like fitting a rollcage so getting into the car is a series of dislocations of important limbs. It's like 'forgetting' to fit any silencers to your new exhaust, because 5bhp is more important than your neighbours sleep.
It's all about compromise in the name of 'yeah'. Obviously if you have kids and a dog, you won't be recreating the look but you can still go "wow. That's nice". I have kids, and a dog, and thus am not checking the prices of plastic sheets but I still greatly admire that car.

Just on the subject of home made arches I spotted this Toyota which has even more rough and ready arches: Charlie

You (and the rest) obviously don't 'get it' Old Chinese proverb went something like "weld 'em up and shut 'em up"

Is it me, or does that Toyota whateveritis have panel damage to the rear quarter? And is it me, or has the owner just made a new arch which extends into the damage rather than beating it out?

They can be painted, all sorts of lovely colours. Polycarbonate paint is the key, look in your local R/C model shop

Meh, when I had my 2 door Mk3 Cortina the first set of seats I had in it didn't tip up, the subframes I had for them were fixed, so the seats were fixed. Like Slater says, if people CBA doing a limbo in and out of the back then they can pay for a cab. TBH it was hilarious watching people trying to contort themselves in and out. Usually in was the one that caused the most hilarity. I swapped them out for some tip-up seats of a more retro design (out of a 2 door GXL or something) and that was no way as amusing. Nice write up, you could use this tech to do any kind of arches not just "bozo" ones, and if rear doors matter to you then make your open. Now I'm thinking a vintage Trans-Am look to an AMC Javelin... Would need to make a neat chin spoiler as well.... but that will pass

for what its worth, the 1mm poly did proove a little too thin and the front of the rear arches are now erroded slightly id go for 2mm poly if they are as wide as my rears. ive also seen a new way of doing it using a metal frame for support but you will have to wait for the next lairy boso mobile for that.
