The black lips on the wheels make me cry, but the car is sweeeet Needs Allycats tbh I don't know what everyone has against the Schmidts! The black dishes aren't to everyone's taste, but I did em to be different. Plan is to take the tyres off em anyway and break out the nitromors, as soon as I can find some steels to roll it on. As much as 13s would be great, it would need to be really slammed to carry it off. The sump on the auto box is the lowest point and I just don't think I could practically get it low enough without smashing the 'box and spilling ATF every five mins. As for Allycats, sweet as they are, I've been there and done that now, would have to be something different Ive got them 14inch GTI steelies if you need some steelies, need a couple of tyres tho?

I've just been doing general tidying jobs on this over the past few weeks. So far: I've rebuilt all the locks so they all open on one key. Put green bulbs in the rear indies so they don't flash quite so red! Re hung the front bumper so it's straight. Put a new gas strut on the bootlid. Bought and fit new door cappings to replace the old cracked ones. Stripped and rebuilt the front struts, due to the front end feeling very hard. Front shocks are goosed Reset the tracking roughly using the axle stands and string method Still to do: Buy and fit coilovers Find some steels for use while I refurb the Schmidts Find a Tonneau cover for the hood in black - narrowly missed out on a couple, now struggling to find one. Get some UK pressed plates to replace the naff ones on it. I might fit a central locking kit to it too. I gave it some daily duties last week, got a bit bored of the diesel Passat, and the Auto cabby is a dream in traffic

Yeah I had a nightmare submitting best offers and getting them rejected, ended up running out of chances to make an offer! Thankfully the wife's ebay account came to the rescue, and I won em first offer! I had them on my old scirocco, can't be faulted for the money really:

Right the coilovers have arrived. Now all I have to do is persuade the wife it's OK to spend valentines day working on the car!

Valentines day was a BIG no no , so I got half of Sunday to have a stab at fitting the coilovers. It obviously fought me every step of the way, and then it went dark. Then I dropped my ratchet and the head of it fell apart spraying springs and ball bearings in every direction. I set the height of the coilovers roughly to allow for some tweaking, lowered it off the axle stands, and the tyres are touching all the arches, rendering it immobile! But it looks cool. Off to Machine Mart for a new ratchet tonight, then I'll have a go at finishing the job...

It's been a while, I've worn my fingertips off and ended up with this: It's had a mixed reaction on the whole. The one I like the best is the guy who rolled up in his car outside my work last week, wound down his window and said 'nice car mate!'
