Seth, what would you class as a good rotor arm? I used to use Unipart before.
I hope that by changing the points on the white 'B as well as cap and rotor arm will improve the starting and running of the car. It feels a little intermittent at the moment, and it is not the best runner, but it seems to be a half decent engine. The brown 'B starts miles better, but admittedly it is in need of a tune.

Ive had several cars that had an annoying habit of closing up the points, and you definately notice easier starting with electronic ignition, the benz fires up ok but i still would have changed it if it didnt have weird transistorised points ignition on it.

I always had points when the car had then originally, but I must say that leccy systems are better. and if ever you want an excuse to get something that needs electronic converting, then get a wartburg like mine ;D

There has in recent years been problems with many of the available rotor arms in that the plastic is not a great insulator and the quality of assembly with a riveted conductor piece poor leading to loads of failures. I don't think it mattered what "flavour" box they came in. Electonic conversions with higher power coils could make matters worse too. One option is to use a genuine old one that you know to be good and is in sevicable condition, and at least carry one like that as a spare. There are now some being made for 25D or 45D dizzies using a properly specified insulating material. I've bought mine from Rarebits4Classics. Bill and Karen who run it are 100% genuine enthusiasts and prefer not to stock questionable parts than sell something they know is second rate.

It's 2008 and we're still debating the benefits of 'electronic ignition' ;-)
Actually I never had any issues with points. Used a dwell meter to get it just 'spot on'....hehe

I can say from a previous classic, how a rotor arm can confuse anybody these days. It was the cause of rough running and eventually non firing of my VW Beetle for a while.
