yeah this chap i know said Mondeo's are where it's at now! A chap on ebay makes a killing selling manifolds for them so u can mount a carb and do away with the Injection. My Saff was a rescue car.... i had less than 48 hours to collect before the crusher (banger racers wouldnt even have it.... it's a Diesel lol) But that almost hit the crusher anyway due to the advertising policies and member/admin attitudes on the very enthusiasts site it was advertised on! Long story but me and another chap apealed to the sellers good nature via PM and got it. Summut else i forgot to mention. It's no worse than the folks u see driving around in an utterly battered 8-10 year old cars on thei last legs just needing a little TLC that they cant be bothered to give it. The car will then find it's self dead in a breakers yard WAY to early

I think that Banger Racing should be just that: knackered old 'normal' cars such as Mk3 Cavaliers, Mondeos etc that are no loss to anyone as millions were produced and they are, to me just boring old plain cars with no soul. Marinas, Cortinas, Capris etc were mass produced "souless" rep mobiles once too. MK3 Cavs and 'deos will become just as coveted one day as they become rarer, just by a different generation. They may not appeal to us, but our kids/grandkids will remember them as the cars they grew up with, just like we grew up with the cars that we now consider classics. Sure it makes me sad that some of these cars get raced, but as has been said above several times, their owners have the right to do with them as they please. Horses for courses init.

banger racing is the best hobby going i'd say. cant see how people can slag us off as most of us have classics on the road like myself mk2 granny and 2dr cortina and we're always willing to sell the good bits on to help clssic car folks. me personlly hate to see the mega rare stuff get raced but its there money let them do it, its what the crowd wanna see. I have also raced rare stuff myself but only cos I couldnt resell it 1 being my 1953 pug 403 estate only rhd estate version in britian at the time 4 years ago council picked it up as a abandoned car noone claimed it within 21 days so I give £20 for it on the condition every part of the car got scraped

Well it would certainly be silly for someone such as myself to get upset about Banger racing And I have to say, it looks like a lot of fun!

Banger racing fills a gap as far as i can see. It certainly depresses me to see the really rare cars raced but that's life. The thing that really stings my ring is the crime that it produces in the dark corners of the sport. Things like thieving cars to race. Take the 180B SSS that was fully restored, almost perfect and then disappeared..... Only to appear on a Banger site completely smashed to smithereens - you could still see some of its proper paintjob now THAT is depressing I've heard of peoples projects going from driveways and spotted in the oval later on too. I cant go watch it as i know i'll get wound up by it but i don't think it should be banned....i just wish some of the racers had a bit of morality when faced with an obviously well-loved and cared for car thats OBVIOUSLY nicked. Over on the DOC forum there's a few racers, we don't mind the scrappers going to them and they let us have dibbs on interior/glass bits

And the idiot that had just smashed it to pieces was leaning against it for the picture, grinning his face off. Utterly disgraceful.

As for BR as a whole, I love it. It's entertaining and it's not (yet) been sucked into a world of red tape, H&S and regulations. It's the one of the last 'real world' activities that Joe Bloggs can do. Just think, if you like football you'd be shot if you tried to go for a kick around with the Chelsea squad, but in banger racing a rookie could find himself in a race with a national champ! It's fun. It's exciting. It's cheap. Yeah, rare old cars getting smashed is ad, but it's also quite entertaining too. Like a guilty pleasure or something. We all enjoy seeing a nice motor get wrecked in the movies, don't we (come on, don't deny it). It's just scratching that itch. Chris

If that mint Granada your talking of was red, then it was my one. I have no proof to say that it went racing, but ive got a very good idea of where it went. It really was as mint as it looked, mainly due to it having no sunroof. Sure I was wound up, but at the time I had more things to worry about so I just waited.............. and waited for the insurance payout. I still love banger racing, so lets have some more pics! This one is my dad, waaaaaaay back in the day. And one of my attempts a couple of years ago. ;D

Shame to see a classic go this way but you can always offer to buy it off the racers before they trash it for good.

i have raced since i was 17 i love classic motors for the road and mainly the ones that hit the track have had there day long ago personally everytime i have had a nice motor for racing I'm happy to sell and advertise the parts from them but 99% of the time the classic/retro guys want stuff for free which is a joke i paid for the car and i own the bits the fact it is going to be raced is irrelavant if i go to get something i pay the price for what i want and if someone made a decent offer i would sell em the car the issue about classics being destroyed is a joke they are laying around all over the place you boys just don't wanna pay for em and we will so tough luck really the amount of people that steal cars to race is tiny i buy em with my cash that i earned working my ass off the main reason a lot of these guys have classics to race is they stockpiled them years ago when you guys were happy to see them scrapped as they werent worth the effort in those days so no point moaning about it now

I have NO problem with banger racing per se, its just unfortunate that most of the "banger racers" I know are lazy tightarsed so-and sos, who constantly want to buy my cars (despite being told no) and seem to delight in telling me how "capris are curse word to race" or "sierra uprights are only worth £10" or whatever. That, and being forced to listen to the same story over and over again (firecracker, follow in, austin 3 litre, head on, etc etc) with only minute variations in the tale added to the ridiculous lying that seems to be par for the course (I needed some doorcarsds for a mk3 cavalier. Local r8cr boi who kills at least 4 cavs a months says, nar we don't strip them off, we just light them and stand back...(yeah....) then asks me £150 for an engine I know he took from a skip on my industrial estate, well lets just say I have drunk my fill. This is of course only my opinion, there probably are banger racers who don't feel the need to invent everything they say (or steal it from the "Top gear book of curse word cars"... ) but unfortunatly, they arn't the ones who come to see me.

As expected, this thread showed some promise, but is now starting to attract the 'look at me I can string loads of words together without bothering to punctuate them properly because I'm in such a rush to wind you guys up' brigade. Let's agree to disagree....or agree...or meh. Cats anyone??
