There's actually a UK Hot Rodding History section on the NSRA Forum now, it's early days but it's looking like quite a useful little addition. People are at last getting their scanners out and sharing their memories. And the photo just sets it off perfectly - young guy standing by his pride and joy after spending god knows how many hours spannering, welding, hammering and skinning knuckles to get to where he is. I know he only caters for the maxi pants brigade but you cant deny Jamie Shaws skills when he produces motors like this... When everybody else was modding Skyline's and Supra's he said 'no' and did something different with a British car.  I really do hope you are joking... That guy deserves a pat on the back just because he decided to cover a TVR in garish fibreglass shite instead of a Nissan?   That. Is. WIN |

Steve Lang is doing some fantastic work at the moment. Way ahead of the field in the UK at the moment. His '32 due out this year is stunning.

Anyone mentioned Jago yet? It could be argued that rodding wouldn'tbe what it is in this country if it wasn't for him.

that black '34 coupe won. I think 'ee was robbed. Its that American (style) car > British Tin thing which creeps in a lot. My money was on the Standard. A-W-E-S-O-M-E car. Best thing I've seen in a long long time. But not American standard body style rod and not powered by a V8 so BiB winner? Nope.
Not to take anything away from that '34 it was a stunner for sure, but that Standard is what rodding in the UK should be about 100%.

Just though id put another pic of this on the thread, just because it realy is THAT good! Whilst Jamie shaws work may not be to everyone tastes, just look at the way the TVR flows. The lines are spot on imo and the interior is absolutly stunning. I for one would love to see Jamie do his thing to some old british tin. Ok, the last time he touched something old, as far as I know, was the Morris Minor on 'pimp my ride'. The wheels were poop but I liked the rest of it, even though it was rushed, AND for TV. If he took his time on something like a Ford pop, I'm sure it would blow people away. |

Surely the judges must have to declare reasons for their decisions, and marking something down for being British wouldn't be an option? Or am I being naive? Never even saw whiat did end up winning. |

The lines are spot on imo and the interior is absolutly stunning. just took a long look at the TVR and sorry but the only lines I can see that flow are the few that he's not butchered . ok the interior though not how I'd want one is ok but as far as saying the lines flow I can't see it the whole thing just looks badly proportioned with at least 2 ill fitting body kits slapped on it even the wheels don't fit the arches . I don't like to dis other peoples work but that tvr stands for everything that's wrong with badly body kitted cars |

You wont find any pics of Nicks Standard, Its never been anywhere, other than out for a Photoshoot for CC, and round the block a couple of times, It will be out this year, but Nick has just moved, and getting the house up to spec has his time filled at the moment, I'm over there next week to help him get it started after a year or so of hibernation, Ill see if I can get some pics then, I suppose you cant forget his earlier cars either, Mk1 Zephyr, Porkyseven, the 40 Ford pickup, Cossy mk2 cortina estate, Blue Mk1 cortina , XE powered, and many more, Being but a young man, I don't know any of his earlier cars, but when I saw the Vanguard in CC my jaw hit the floor. Utterly stunning, and such attention to detail. I seem to remember at the time in the letters pages there was a bit of a debate about the place of British cars in Custom Car and the British scene in general; cars like that and Dave Rothwell's to me sum up what's right with British rodding and custom-building. I like a good traditional American rod, but I much prefer innovation. |
