Here's the latest addition to my collection. I've got a couple of mk1 Escorts, but this Anglia was too good a deal to turn down. He gave it to me for practically nothing which was a shock. I don't know too much about them, but I've got some books and am doing some learning. The guy I got it off said it had been in his family for 30 odd years, and its been sitting in his garage for the last 20. He pulled it all apart to repaint it, and then ran out of time. All the bits are still there in boxes, I just gotta work out where they all go. Who needs a jigsaw puzzle for Christmas Apparently its a 1961 model, but I've got no paperwork with the car. The guy said its a UK car that was bought back in the day by a guy who worked for Ford. He stripped it for racing too. Dunno if it actually got out on track at all. He brought it with him when he came to Australia. Its just the 998cc pre-xflow in there. But I reckon I'll keep that in there, tidy it up with some new paint. Stick all the bits back on and then see where we're at. There are some beaut bits in the boxes, like a brand new set of Spax adjustable rear shocks still in their original packet. But enough jibber, here's some photos: into the sun for the first time in 20 years on the trailer for the trip home into the shed boxes and boxes of bits looks like the floors were replaced at some stage plenty of bitumen paint around. The sills are half full of the stuff. I tried looking at the glass to work out the exact build date, but it wasn't Triplex. and finally the powerhouse under the bonnet.

Cheers guys. It looks like a nice solid shell. There are a few patches welded into it though. According to one of the guys in the club its a Wooler or Speedograph Remote Shifter. Dunno if that's the ones that the GT Cortina's came with. All I know is it looks pretty damn cool I really hope these old tyres are still ok and drive alright. They're virtually brand new, and still have all the knobbly bits on them. Just as long as they balance up ok.

tell me your not serious? those would be sooooo weak by now. rubber softens with age. and most of that will be in the sidewall with the weight of a car sitting on em. don't realy want em skinnin emselves while ya driving do ya get those wheels blasted and painted too. they look wicked

I wasn't really expecting the tyres to be ok. They've been sitting for so long, and one was flat, so like you said, the rubber is probably buggered.
But yep, the wheels will be blasted and painted. What about powder coating? Does that work for wheels? Or does paint give a better finish?

Those wheels look suspiciously like Lotus Cortina ones. Judging by various other bits of the car, it wouldn't surprise me if that's a 1500 pre-crossflow. I'd be tempted to drop the sump and count the main bearings...........

Seems to me that Mr Moggyman could be right.......would be an awesome little screamer if it were so, seems to me that the springs are not the original ones either (counting the coils), so could be that the suspension was made a bit stiffer aswell. anyway, just drop the sump, count the bearings, and then bless your luck with this awesome little car Greets Chris

That would be awesome if it were a 1500. The guy I got it off said it was just the 998, but maybe he had that wrong. I'll have to get onto it and get that sump off for a look

Looks like a really great basis for a project Slater or his dad have one of those gear lever set ups I think so he might be able to identify it.

Does look more like a wooler, the ford one was bigger as i remember it, it's a long way back too.. more like a 1200 box than the old 997.

Damn, I meant to check that last night too. But got distracted looking through boxes of bits. Some cool old stuff in there. Brand new Spax adjustable rear shocks. These won't work with the lever arm setup and need to be converted to turrets. Or something like that. I'll have to investigate this further. I guess the shocks could be stuffed by now too. Found most of the chrome too. Gotta work out where it all fits. Some bits are obvious But what are these ones for? More piles of bits And I love this old tacho. Hope it still works.

Excellent info, thanks guys, thanks. I'll head down tonight and have a look after I stick the tailshaft back in my Escort. Guess we'll see what the numbers say.
You can measure the stroke by taking a spark plug out and using a length of wire as you turn the engine over, can't you?
And mikemai47, that is an excellent little Anglia there. I'll be taking the tyres off the wheels next week, so will see what they look like after a blasting.
